adidas has signed, at the United Nations headquarters, a partnership agreement with the organization Parley for the oceans. There, they presented an innovative footwear concept born from this collaboration: a sneaker created from plastic discarded in the oceans.

Parley for the oceans is an organization in which creators and business leaders work to preserve our oceans. Both entities will collaborate in the 'Plastic Ocean' program, a program based on three pillars: education and communication, research and innovation, as well as direct actions to stop plastic pollution in the oceans.

Under the title 'Oceans. Climate. Life', Parley presented its proposals in the UN General Assembly Hall in New York during a meeting on climate change, convened by the President of the General Assembly. The UNxParley event also included a press conference with Eric Liedtke, member of the executive committee responsible for global brands of the adidas group, and Cyrill Gutsch, founder of Parley for the oceans. Gutsch spoke about this collaboration and showed a prototype of the shoe, in which the upper is made from yarns and filaments recovered and recycled from ocean waste and nets found in the sea.

"At Parley we want to establish ocean conservation as a key part of the climate change debate. Our goal is to raise public awareness and create new partnerships that can help protect and preserve the oceans," explained Gutsch. "We are very proud that adidas is joining us in this mission to show that it is possible to turn ocean plastic into something cool," he added.

Liedtke, for his part, acknowledged feeling "excited" to join Parley.adidas has been a leader in sustainability, but this partnership allows us to tap into new areas and create innovative materials and products for our athletes. We invite everyone to join us on this journey to clean up the oceans," he said.
