Runnea has received another product designed by and for athletes. This time we tested the Invisible SOS1 sub insoles, one of the many models of insoles with which the company Noene, wants to make our sports practice, a more friendly and less harmful physical activity for our joints. Some implements that have a very good reception among all those who are obsessed with the reduction to the minimum expression of joint impacts and muscle vibrations that spread through our locomotor system as a result of the continuous impacts of our feet on the ground. NOENE is one of the most internationally renowned brands of DIAFARM Laboratories, a leading company in the pharmaceutical sector, and distributor of such renowned companies as Faringesic, Ricola, Colgate or Siken, which currently has its own offices in Spain, Portugal, France and Italy.

NOENE offers a wide range of 769 Swiss insoles, whose common denominator is to avoid the propagation of part of the negative vibrations generated by the impact of the foot against the ground during our daily activities, at work, but especially in sports, due to their quantity and intensity. Technical specifications

To start at the beginning, PRESENTATION AND TECHNICAL DATA SHEET:

  • Product: ultra-lightweight INVISIBLE SOS1 underplates.
  • Technology: manufactured with a viscoelastic, high-tech elastomer that absorbs and dissipates the shock waves generated when the feet impact against a surface and helps protect the joints and prevent future injuries. The difference with other models and materials on the market is that NOENE insoles have a molecular structure of microcrystals that absorb 92% of the impact of these harmful vibrations.
  • Use: it is a removable postural sub insole, not a substitute but complementary to customized postural insoles. The brand assures that it can be used with any type of footwear and customized or non-customized insoles, placing it under the insole and in no case in direct contact with the feet.
  • Recommendations: NOENE recommends its use for joint protection both in daily activity and in indoor and outdoor sports, such as soccer, basketball, tennis, field hockey, rugby, running, skiing and other mountain activities such as hiking and trail running.
  • Thickness: ultra-thin, 1 mm thick.
  • Weight: ultralight, 13 grams.
  • Washable and reusable
  • Suitable for men and women
  • Available sizes: 36/39 - 40/43 - 43/46 - 47/50. To adjust to your size, within each size range, cut out the sub insole following the silhouette of the model that appears on the package according to correlative numbers. Then remove your personalized insole or not, and place the Invisible ISO1 underneath, so that you can check that its size has been perfectly adjusted to your insole.

Product test

If you've come this far, you're probably wondering what I was wondering when I prepared the info for the review:

Will one millimeter of viscolastic material be enough to notice the effects on impact shock force dispersion?

Will an insert (subsole) under another insert (insole) with no more support and adjustment than the athlete's own weight and the last of the shoe create problems of rubbing and slipping?

Will it affect the stability of the stride?

Won't the proprioception and feel of the stride be impaired by stepping on two implements in addition to the midsole of the shoe itself?

Many questions and only one way to answer them: walk, run and jump.

With the aim of confronting the NOENE Invisible SOS1 insoles to the greatest possible variability of situations, I have tested them for three weeks in different daily and sporting activities: daily and everyday use, to teach my multi-sport and physical activity classes in nature with the future sports technicians we are preparing, in indoor directed classes, strength training with multi-jump and plyometry and above all in asphalt and mountain running situations.

I also believed that the shoes should be varied to be able to contrast sensations and I have used from 0 drop shoes (Altra King MT) to maximalist shoes and maximum cushioningBrooks Caldera and Salomon Sense Pro Max), through more intermediate drops although with cushioning topAsics Gel Kayano 23) and more intermediate drops and cushioningMizuno Wave Mujin 4 and Salomon Sense Ride).

And finally, I introduced the third variable: custom insoles vs. standard insoles for each shoe model.

For this I have used my customized insoles from Podoactiva, a leading company and reference, with a whole team of professionals in charge, in the static and dynamic biomechanical study of the footprint and in the design of insoles adapted to the characteristics and needs of each athlete, both those for daily use and those specific for running.

David Cárdenas' opinion

What we liked the most:

  • Easily trimmable and adaptable to your foot size.
  • Once correctly placed between the insole and the base of the shoe has always remained in place, it has not folded generating wrinkles or slipped, even in the highest impact exercises, or in movements of sudden changes of direction and speed: you do not know you're wearing them.
  • Neither stability nor proprioception have been affected, not even in the most irregular mountain terrain, technical steps and steep slopes or more unstable terrain.
  • The viscolastic material with which they are made is evident, already to the touch, that it has the capacity to absorb impacts and that it recovers its shape quickly.
  • Its shock absorption capacity, especially in the heel area, which is particularly involved in the reception of the foot strike, is more evident the lower the drop and the absorption capacity of the shoe's midsole is more discreet.
  • With the customized insoles (more aimed at correcting the footprint than at cushioning) and with the standard insoles of the shoes in which the manufacturer has skimped on the thickness and cushioning capacity of the material (less than 3 mm), there is a plus in shock absorption and a better feeling of contact with the ground throughout the entire stride cycle.
  • I have washed them without problems along with my technical clothes made of synthetic fabrics, with special detergent and without softener. They dry normally and have not deteriorated.
  • They can be used with any type of sneaker.

Possible improvements:

  • Both with custom insoles and with the standard ones for each model of shoe, they are so light and malleable that you need to take your time to adapt them perfectly between the base of the shoe and the insole so that they fit perfectly.
  • This is a slight inconvenience when you use several pairs of shoes depending on activity, distance, terrain and needs.
  • In the models with maximum cushioning, I have not been able to discriminate their % of contribution to this shock absorption capacity (remember that they are only 1 mm thick), it is imperceptible.

Conclusions

For what and for whom would I recommend the NOENE Invisible SOS1 sub insoles?

  • For runners of medium and heavy weight, with a not very refined running technique in which most of the impact of their stride on the ground falls on the heel or with a history of injuries in this area and in the Achilles tendon.
  • For indoor athletes of collective sports modalities in which their specific footwear provides a discreet cushioning and they need a plus in the absorption of impacts of strides and jump receptions.
  • To combine them with customized insoles, which are more aimed at correction than shock absorption. On a personal level, with my custom insoles I have noticed an extra contribution in the sensation and cushioning of the footprint that I lost when replacing the insoles of the shoes with the custom insoles, both those for daily use and those specifically designed for running.
  • To use them in conjunction with shoes with discrete cushioning and/or that include insoles with low thickness and shock absorption capacity. Although here, my advice is to invest those almost 30 euros in acquiring shoes of higher quality and performance in this aspect of vital importance in sports footwear, especially for running.

For what and for whom I would not recommend the NOENE Invisible SOS1 sub insoles?

  • For light runners, with good running technique, with a forward landing point and who achieve an ideal cadence of 180 steps per minute.
  • For use with shoes whose midsole offers good and proven cushioning and shock absorption.
  • I do not see their use in skiing, as the brand indicates, where the need for shock absorption of the impact force of the foot against the ground is practically non-existent. What it can provide is a better feeling in the contact of the foot with the boot.
