This Sunday, November 7, the New York Marathon 2021 was run, one of the most popular races of the year, included among the '6 Majors' marathons along with Boston, Berlin, Chicago, Tokyo and London. The start took place at 9:40 a.m. (at 2:40 p.m., Spanish peninsular time).

Miles and miles of runners try to get a race bib for this legendary race that has been held since 1970. A monumental route through Central Park, the Big Apple, Staten Island, Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens, Manhattan... It has everything to delight the approximately 30 000 popular and professional runners who participated in this marathon this Sunday. Five starting waves to enjoy a marathon that although it is not one of the fastest, because of a terrain with ups and downs, it is one of the most beautiful in the world.

And this edition era not like any other, since it era the 50th, a party that should have taken place last year, but this Sunday no one could prevent it. If we continue digging a little deeper into the history of this mythical race, we see that the record is held by the Kenyan Geoffrey Mutai with 2 h 05 min 06 s, obtained in 2011. On the women's side, Margaret Okayo, another Kenyan runner, set a time of 2 h 22 min 31 s, in 2003. This year, there were two runners trying their best to beat these records. They were the Ethiopian Kenenisa Bekele, who had already participated in the 42k in Berlin, and the Kenyan Peres Jepchirchir, who had just won the Olympic Games in Tokyo. Kenenisa Bekele could not get on the podium of a race that was led and easily won by Albert Korir. Jepchirchir, however, did not disappoint and with an attack in the final kilometer managed to take the victoria of the New York marathon.
