We are very happy! The Salomon Speedcross 6 is now a reality. A shoe that if anything has always stood out, it has been for its comfort and exceptional performance in greasy and wet terrain. With few exceptions, any lover of mountain races is almost obliged to know the Salomon Speedcross saga. It is difficult to find a person who has not seen up close any of the five previous editions on the feet of someone known or used by an athlete who participates in trail competitions. If you are lucky, maybe you have tried them yourself.
It is rightly one of the best-selling trail running shoes sagas in history and with greater success among veteran runners and veterans. Since its first edition, back in 2006, the Speedcross version has been dedicated to conquering the hearts of the most demanding mountain runners around the globe. Although the model has evolved, it has remained true to its aesthetics and always with exceptional performance.
Salomon is able to provide the runner with a myriad of arguments for choosing Speedcross 6 as the shoe for training and competition. If you are that kind of trail runner who enjoys running in muddy areas or where grip is put in check, this model is a choice that will not fail you under any circumstances. They are ideal for training and competition distances of up to approximately one marathon , although we have seen professional runners running longer distances with them.
Killian Jornet himself was able to win his first UTMB with a Salomon Speedcross 2 on his feet.
In addition to use for running on all types of surfaces and conditions, it is also an ideal choice as a hiking shoe if our routes include large slopes and areas that require a good grip to avoid any type of scare in the form of a slip or fall.
One of the most curious aspects of the Speedcross saga is that all versions have been designed by different people. So, going from the fifth edition to the sixth edition has meant a number of changes, especially in terms of performance.
The Annecy-based company has been able to reduce the weight of the previous model to offer runners a more dynamic shoe, if possible. Another aspect that has been improved is the grip, which era already excellent before, but is now better thanks to the fact that the Speedcross 6 connects better with wet surfaces. This has been achieved by renewing the design of the lugs, which are now Y-shaped. This allows for better mud evacuation.
The entire upper area has also been redesigned with the aim of improving the fit of the shoe, being now much more functional and resistant than before.
Not everything is new. Salomon maintains, as it can not be otherwise, the philosophy of providing comfort to the runner, with a structure and a midsole very similar to its predecessors. The modern aesthetics of Speedcross 5 remains intact, sporting a design with striking and attractive colors.
Although they transmit, possibly by its sole, a feeling of being a shoes with a firm touch, nothing further from reality. Comfort is one of the strong points of the Salomon Speedcross 6 For this, it incorporates the EnergyCell+ compound in its midsole, which offers great cushioning in each stride. Climbing and descending constantly, as well as stepping in mud and crossing puddles will not be a problem for the foot to continue to feel that characteristic comfort with every step.
If there is one thing that makes this and any other model from the French brand stand out, it is their exceptional fit. The Sensifit construction hugs the foot in such a way that it provides reliable and precise support. All this together with its Quicklace lacing system that not only allows instant lacing and unbuckling, but also adjusts the shoe perfectly. Even in the most unstable areas we feel how the foot maintains its natural position.
The ripstop fabric used for the manufacture of its upper works perfectly avoiding all kinds of tears or breaks in the upper. At first glance it is already apparent that the Speedcross 6 have improved in this section, looking much more robust and resistant. Not only that, but it is an anti-particle mesh, preventing external elements such as dust or gravel from entering the inside of the shoe.
Finally, the jewel in the crown. The Mud Contragrip sole. Its new Y-shaped lug arrangement improves grip on all types of surfaces, but especially on the wettest ones. A pattern that allows the foot to stick to the surface while being able to evacuate mud or water instantly.
The Salomon Speedcross 6 are designed with a 10mmdrop and the weight reduction achieved by the French company has led them to register 298 grams in the men's version and 262 grams in the women's version. All this with an RRP of £130.
Three years after the previous release and true to its DNA, the sixth version of the Speedcross has been able to improve a shoe that era already of superior quality in itself. Better grip and a better fit join the already proven cushioning and comfort to bring to market a model that will delight trail runners who are fearless and enjoy running in any muddy area and putting their foot in the deepest puddles.
Rest assured that the Salomon Speedcross 6 will not fail you under any circumstances.
