One of the most famous and toughest ultra trails of the international scene returns this weekend. We are talking about, of course, the Hardrock 100 Endurance Run, which will start next Friday, July 12 at 6:00 a.m. (US time - 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 13 in Spanish time).
A Hardrock 100 that, for those who still do not know it, has a total distance of 165 kilometers, with a positive difference in altitude of 10,000 meters that is achieved along the length and breadth of the San Juan mountain range, in the state of Colorado in the United States. A test that, as we have advanced, will begin, as usual, the early hours of Friday and that will take athletes to spend more than 20 hours running through places as wild and beautiful as demanding, which will test your body and your head.
Not sure which running shoe to choose?
In a few simple steps we help you to choose the ideal running shoe for you
Go to the Shoe FinderAthletes among which stand out, as it could not be otherwise, in the female category, the queen of ultradistance, Courtney Dauwalter, who after her victoria in 2023, entering in 4th position in the general classification (it is said soon), returns to Colorado in search of revalidating her title and who knows if to leave us some more headlines.
Along with her, the most outstanding runners in the category will be the German Katharina Hartmuth, who was second in the UTMB of 2023, or the French Camille Bruyas, who also holds a second place in the UTMB of 2021. Both will be the strongest rivals for Courtney, who wants more after starting her season by winning Transgrancanaria and Mt. Fuji 100.
On the other hand, the men's field, somewhat overshadowed by Courtney's presence in the race, who will be the center of attention, will also be very strong. One of the strongest bastions of victoria will be the Frenchman François D'Haene, who already knows what it is to win at the Hardrock and who looks set to go for the course record, still held by Kilian Jornet with his 21:36:24.
Besides him, other runners to take into account in the men's race will be the American Zach Miller, who may fall at the last minute due to health problems involving his recent appendicitis operation, Ludovic Pommeret, who has amazed the world with victories such as the Diagonale des Fous, and who has spent almost a month in Colorado preparing the race, or Diego Pazos, who will present battle in a race that will keep his race ceiling at 4.200 meters, at Handies Peak, and that will make the runners struggle if they want to kiss the rock when they cross the meta.
