1 / 1fitness trackers are increasingly gaining market share over smartwatches, whose high price does not help their rapid popularization. At present, they can only be seen on the wrists of a few early adopters.
But let's focus on quantifying bracelets, a market niche on which major technology manufacturers are betting, such as Sony, which has just introduced the second generation of the SmartBand 2. The main novelty that incorporates this fitness tracker compared to the first model is the inclusion of an optical sensor that monitors your heart rate. A really useful feature, but unfortunately many devices of this type do not include.
The Japanese company has improved in this Sony SmartBand 2 some shortcomings of the original model although its main function remains the same: to record daily physical activity. Thanks to them we can know the number of steps we walk each day or monitor the sleep cycle to know how we have rested every night.
Heart rate and stress level
As we have already mentioned before, the Sony SmartBand 2 smart bracelet incorporates an optical sensor that will allow you to know your heart rate at any time of the day and, in this way, know your physical condition and the level of stress to which you are subjected during the day.
The wearable will automatically record all the activities you do throughout each day and whose information you can see through the Sony Lifelog application, once you have installed it on your smartphone or tablet. In this way, you can see how you progress daily and check if you have achieved the goals you had initially proposed.
Notifications
Whether you are a man and carry your phone in your pants pocket or a woman and carry it in your bag, you will not have to worry about communications, as the Sony SmartBand 2 will alert you every time you receive a call, a message, an email or a notification on your social networks through small vibrations and colored LEDs.
Water resistant
Another feature that has been improved is water resistance. While in the first model the bracelet could be submerged up to 15 meters in water, now the new Sony SmartBand 2 has IP68 certification which means it is resistant to dust and water up to a maximum depth of 3 meters for a maximum time of half an hour.
Design and autonomy
In terms of design, Sony maintains the plastic body although this time the finish is more uniform and with a more secure locking system. And regarding autonomy, the Japanese manufacturer offers a battery life of up to five days, provided that the power saving mode is activated, because if you permanently use the pulse measurement function, the battery life decreases to 10 hours. The time to fully recharge the bracelet is 1 hour and 15 minutes.
Availability and price
The Sony SmartBand 2 will be available on the market from next September at a price of 119 euros in black and white colors. It will be compatible with iPhone mobiles (iOS version 82 onwards) and Android from version 4.4 KitKat and later.
