Now lighter, it integrates cutting-edge technology and is crafted in collaboration with some of the world's fastest elite runners. Let's delve into the features of the new adidas Adizero Adios Pro 2, the quickest shoe in the history of the three stripes.

The release of the adidas Adizero Adios Pro 2.0 running shoes has been highly anticipated, symbolizing adidas' commitment to innovation and progress in serving elite athletes. Dubbed a "record-breaker" by the company, this shoe debuts with significant updates that enhance its lightness, responsiveness, and comfort. Equipped with the latest adidas technologies, it's set to be the choice of the world’s fastest runners at the upcoming Tokyo 2021 Olympics.

adidas Adizero Adios Pro 2.0, now lighter and faster

adidas Running unveils its top-tier technology with the latest update to its most competitive series, the Adizero line. Drawing from a rich legacy and advanced technology for elite performance, the adidas Adizero Adios Pro 2.0 arrives with significant modifications improving crucial aspects like the upper and midsole, while retaining features like the EnergyRods and LightstrikePRO foam, ensuring unmatched speed and responsiveness.

Billed as the fastest shoe in adidas history, this latest update is now lighter and faster; the adidas Adizero Adios Pro. And this is largely due to the redesign of some strategic areas of the shoe. Most notably, the midsole has been optimized for faster running speed. Without further ado, let's get into the details and highlight the main new features of this model.

The Adidas Adizero Adios Pro 2.0 running shoes introduce a dual-layered approach with the revamped LIGHTSTRIKE PRO technology in the midsole, achieving a lighter, more dynamic, and responsive performance. This evolution of the Lightstrike PRO foam, inspired by the groundbreaking Adizero Takumi SEN series, pioneers in adopting this technology, enhances the shoe's legacy of competition excellence.

Incorporating EnergyRods carbon rods, the shoe enables neutral runners to sustain their pace across longer, more challenging races, facilitating quicker recovery and unparalleled energy return.

Aesthetically, the Adizero Adios Pro 2.0 has undergone significant changes. The design team has chosen to integrate CELERMESH 2.0, a state-of-the-art engineered mesh made from recycled polyester, progressing from the fabric used in the original model.

This upgrade, derived from athlete insights, aims to increase speed through enhanced flexibility, breathability, and support.

The outsole of this model has been updated to enhance runner acceleration. For this purpose, a CONTINENTAL™ rubber compound has been integrated into the metatarsal area, establishing a new traction zone. The heel design has been revamped to bolster support, preventing any undesired movement or shifting. Nonetheless, the product designers are dedicated to refining this framework to increase comfort levels.

adidas Adizero Adios Pro 2.0, the latest version of the "record-breaking" shoe.

"The new ADIZERO ADIOS PRO 2.0 is a symbol of adidas' ambition to constantly evolve to provide the best to elite athletics", this is how the German company itself presents the latest update of its fastest shoe in history. The adidas Adizero Adios Pro 2 is here and it arrives with major innovations in key areas of the shoe with the aim of offering greater lightness, reactivity and speed in the race.

A racing shoe that belongs to the Adizero franchise, the fastest and most competitive line of adidas Running. These innovations are in the composition of its midsole, now with a double layer of the redesigned LIGHTSTRIKE PRO technology, and the implementation of the CELERMESH 2.0 fabric, made with recycled polyester. A model designed by and for the fastest elite athletes with the aim of providing a greater sense of speed and lightness.

It is worth mentioning a 10mm drop and a weight of 215 grams.

With the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games just around the corner, athletes such as Peres Jepchirchir, Joyciline Jepkosgei, Rhonex Kipruto, Kibiwott Kandie, Stephan Kiprop, Philemon Kiplimo or Amos Kipruto, will be wearing these adidas Adizero Adios Pro 2.0. Listen closely, and you might hear a few records breaking.

Review of Adidas Adizero Adios Pro 2.0

Adidas Adizero Adios Pro 2.0, a real rocket for and by elite athletes

From RUNNEA we have the opportunity to test the Adidas Adizero Adios Pro 2.0; the "record-breaking" shoes of the German company that come with many new features to become the great allies of high-performance runners for the competition season.

Lighter, more reactive and comfortable. This is this running shoe for maximum speed on asphalt as well as on the track.

Main features

  • Really good cushioning-weight-responsiveness ratio
  • Low weight (215 gr. for a 95 USA)
  • Drop: 10 mm
  • Structure that perfectly combines support with lightness.

Type of user

More and more runners are inclined to use shoes models with the latest technology. When we talk about new compounds and models, it is mandatory to mention the new top model from adidas, the Adizero Adios Pro 2.0.

The new version of the record-breakingshoe from the German brand Adidas has a ground breaking design that is very different from the first version. If you are a demanding runner looking to improve your performance over long distances (half marathon and marathon), pay attention to the following review.

When we talk about models of these characteristics, made by and for the elite, it is clear that they are not designed for all runners, especially for those who have a discreet performance.

Although at first glance they look like a shoes with considerable cushioning, we should not be confused with a shoe for everyone.

If when running with them you feel the midsole very cushioned... this model is not for you.

Runners with a medium-low weight, with a good running technique, who maintain it despite the kilometers, and whose race pace is clearly below the 3 min 45 sec per kilometer will be able to take advantage of the benefits of these Adidas Adizero Adios Pro 2.0. Otherwise, adidas has other proposals that may suit you better.

However, and after making it clear that this is a shoe intended for runners with high performance, we should not think that we are going to find an exclusive model for competition and a short lifespan. The Adidas Adizero Adios Pro 2.0, provide us with comfort, efficiency and allow us to enjoy many kilometers.

Running rhythms

Undoubtedly, the running paces where this shoe gives its best version are paces below 3:30 min/km. Paces above 3:45 min/km will make the runner feel the model as something "soft" (due to the midsole compound) and therefore unstable. For this reason, due to the ample cushioning feel, it may be somewhat misleading, and make runners with a more discreet performance opt for this model.

My recommendation is not to opt for this model if your training/race paces are not sub 3:45 min/km.

Adidas offers other models such as the Prime X that may be more suitable for popular runners.

In short, a model to run very fast thanks to all its technology. The LIGHTSTRIKE PRO foam in the midsole that confers lightness and reactivity, together with the EnergyRods carbon shafts make these Adidas Adizero Adios Pro 2.0 a real rocket.

Distances

The distances at which to use this model may range from 5 km to the marathon. However, this choice will be made by our pace of competition. If we are going to do a 5 km or 10 km and the pace to develop is sub 3 min/km it is possible that we prefer a model with a lower profile. As everything is a matter of taste, and in this case of pace to develop.

Another important aspect to opt for this model is the terrain or rather the turns and changes of direction that we must make. Due to the new conception of the midsole and outsole, when we make decelerations or changes of direction some what closed the shoe is unstable and our ankles will run some danger. However, on circuits without so many turns, such as a marathon, the Adizero Adios Pro 2.0 behave exceptionally well and are very stable.

In general, for distances of 5 to 10 km, they can be a bit clumsy shoes. But for asphalt circuits where the pace of the race is not maximum, this model will be a safe bet.

What we liked most about the Adidas Adizero Adios Pro 2.0

There are few models on the market that can compete with the performance of these Adidas shoes.

Undoubtedly, these top shoes perfectly combine lightness-cushioning-reactivity. On the other hand, despite being a racing shoe, it is extremely comfortable. This, together with the CELERMESH 2.0 fabric, which in addition to its lightness helps thermoregulation of the foot, minimizes the chances of chafing during the race.

Opportunities for improvement in the Adidas Adizero Adios Pro 2.0

Basically it would be to improve the stability of the shoe when the heel digs in. However, this model is not intended for heel-strikers. The instability that can be produced by the cut of its midsole and outsole is due to the search for greater performance of the current model compared to its predecessor. Therefore, in order to improve in one aspect, the performance of another that is not as "productive" is sometimes reduced.
