1 / 3The wait is over. The adidas Adizero Adios Pro 3, the third version of the most successful adidas saga in recent years, is here. The German brand has made a great effort to improve a model that had little to improve. A trainer made to break records in long-distance events with one of the best comfort and reactivity sensations on the market.
The new iteration of the highly successful running shoe from the German company is back, retaining its core essence while introducing significant improvements to its structure. These enhancements include the incorporation of two layers of foam in the midsole and the optimisation of the carbon plate to boost energy return with each stride. Another notable change is the reduction in the trainer's drop, resulting in more elevation in the forefoot area.
To enhance stability, adidas has chosen to widen the front and rear of the sole platform, as well as including some wedge-shaped cuts in the foam, taking as a reference the adidas Adizero Takumi Sen 8 model.
This model could already be seen, especially in the half marathon test of the exclusive adizero Road To Records event last April 30, aims to take another leap in quality to compete head to head with competitors like Nike or ASICS to be the running shoe of choice for elite athletes and recreational runners to beat their records in half marathon and marathon.
Main features of the adidas Adizero Adios Pro 3
One of the keys to the good performance of this running running shoe for men and women lies in the composition of its midsole. In this case, the designers have opted to include a double-layer Lightstrike Pro foam that generates even more cushioning than in previous versions. The other key, without a doubt, is the optimisation of the carbon fibre plate in the form of rods, which adidas calls EnergyRods 2.0.
The trainer continues to maintain its philosophy of very high profiles, keeping in line with the legal limit allowed by World Athletics, which is 40 mm for road running shoes. In this case, they have decided to reduce the drop to 6.5 mm, with 39.5 mm in the heel area and 33 mm in the forefoot. It is possible that with the aim of looking for a more forefoot foot strike and thus take advantage of all the energy return provided by the midsole and the carbon plate.
The technical mesh is still very light, and it offers a high degree of breathability. You will run feeling that you are not wearing anything and with a lighter feel. Evidently, adidas' strategy continues to be to present a more sustainable model, using recycled materials in its construction.
adidas continues to rely on the Continental rubber outsole, although in this third version it opts for wider grooves so that the midsole foam can be seen more clearly, probably to slightly reduce the weight of the shoe without affecting the great grip of this compound.
adidas Adizero Adios Pro 3, ready to break all records
The adidas Adizero Adios Pro 3, like its predecessors Adizero Adios Pro 2 and Adios Pro, is a trainer made for high speed running, as it is at paces below 4 min/km approximately when you really start to feel its full potential. It's aimed at a type of runner profile with experience and a fairly refined running technique, being a better choice for those runners who land on their forefoot.
Despite being a model focused on fast running, we are talking about a running shoe focused on long distance thanks to its design that allows to maintain the efficiency of the stride and improve the running economy. This leads to energy savings and delays the onset of fatigue, which is crucial in events such as marathons.
In addition, the German-engineered construction is able to provide a very soft and pleasant underfoot feel despite being a very light shoe (230 g), although somewhat heavier than its previous version, probably due to the increased width of the heel and forefoot platforms. The Adizero Adios Pro 3 arrives with a starting RRP of £220, a cheaper price than its competitor NIKE Alphafly Next% 2, a factor that may tip the balance towards the German brand.
In short, this model is poised to become, once again, one of the favourite shoes of runners to beat their records or get the best possible performance in half marathons and marathons.
Review of Adidas Adizero Adios Pro 3
Gorka Cabañas
TesterThe adidas Adizero Adios Pro 3 is undoubtedly one of the fastest top 3 shoes on the market for middle and long distance.
adidas Adizero Adios Pro 3 3: A formula one for those who fight for the top of the podium
adidas Adizero Adios Pro 3: A great shoe for those who fight for the first place on the podium. The adidas Adizero Adios Pro 3 is the new bet of the German brand to become the fastest running shoe on the market. And seeing the improvements and evolutions proposed in this third edition, the search for the top step of the podium is more even than ever before in history. Nike's dominance in recent years has been threatened not only by brands such as adidas, but also by others like ASICS, New Balance, Saucony and Hoka, which have set their sights and resources on manufacturing true Formula 1 running shoes.
As a first premise, you have to keep in mind that this is not a shoe for everyone, far from it. In fact, it is a shoe for a few runners. Even so, I can tell you that the improvements implemented in this third edition of the Adizero Adios Pro are faster, they are more stable but they are not lighter than the previous version.
For which type of runner do we recommend the adidas Adizero Adios Pro 3?
The adidas Adizero Adios Pro 3 is a flying running shoes for experienced runners with good running technique and fast paces, always under 4:15 m/km. Ideal for light to medium weight runners (up to 75 kg approximately) who land on their midfoot or forefoot (we will see that their drop decreases) and for distances up to marathon.
It is obviously a model 100% for running on asphalt and mainly for racing, which is where you will be able to make the most of its virtues. Therefore we do not recommend its continued use in training to preserve its durability.
What we liked most about these Adizero Adios Pro 3
If you've been able to read the Adizero Adios Pro 3 's file on RUNNEA, you'll see that there are many changes compared to the previous model, including aesthetic changes. But we are going to focus on the most relevant ones for runners and that you should take into account if these shoes are on your wish list as your next runners.
Now it's a more stable shoe. We found a slightly wider last than the previous model, mainly in the metatarsal or forefoot area. Adidas is clearly looking for more safety and efficiency for runners with a more refined running technique. To this end, a new 65 mm drop has been added to the shoe in search of a more natural and fluid stride cycle from landing with the midfoot area to toe-off.
The Energy Rods 2 carbon fiber rods have also been renewed, looking for a new arrangement that provides greater reactivity and stability.
The combination of the double-layer Lightstrike Pro foam gives it greater cushioning, but a cushioning that feels very lively, returning energy in each stride cycle in combination with the action of the Energy Rods 2 By the way, the midsole height at the heel reaches 395 mm, and 33 mm in the forefoot area. This is very close to the 40 mm limit set by the competent authorities.
The presence of Continental rubber in the outsole has increased, it is still in the toe area but the surface is slightly larger than in the second model, to ensure greater traction at toe-off.
The upper has also undergone some changes. New materials of plasticized touch with some body that give greater stability and support to the foot. A wide but thin and light tongue, similar to suede, which is attached to the laces to prevent it from moving during the race. And a lacing that fits very well, including two new anchors in the area closest to the toes to prevent unwanted movements.
In the heel area, a strip of a leather-like material provides some support to the area. And there is also a folded loop that you can style for a more comfortable and fast shoe. Very useful for example in triathlon and in the inner area two pads to give some comfort and support to the ankle.
Possible improvements for future editions
Comfort in this type of shoes is complicated. The sensations when putting on a racing model like this are spartan, it is normal. speed is prioritized over comfort, but it will always be a point that can be improved in each new edition.
The model gains a few grams compared to the Adizero Adios Pro 2. I don't see it as a negative aspect, since those grams are certainly compensated by the greater stability, the change of drop, the improvement of its system of carbon fiber rods or the new geometry of the shoe, but it is always curious in a battle as fierce as that of the fastest, to see that a model gains weight instead of losing it.
Conclusions
This is a very fast shoe and totally different in feel from anything you've ever tried. You really feel the impulse and support in each stride, but you have to be clear about the objective of the model and your ideal runner profile. If you fall outside those profiles, it will be like driving a Ferrari on an ice rink. If they fit you, you have a perfect tool on your feet to improve your performance. If you don't succeed, you can't blame the shoes.
