Offering an unprecedented energy return and superior stability, the adidas Solarglide 5 has exploded onto the scene with significant improvements that will push you to become the best runner you can be. This fifth version is a sure bet for completing daily workouts over both short and long distances.

This running shoe combines a Boost midsole, adidas' Torsion LEP 2.0 system and a Primeblue fabric upper to deliver impeccable responsiveness on your daily runs at easy paces. A top-of-the-range in cushioning that also evolves its aesthetics while remaining true to its essence: to offer maximum comfort and protection in your daily workouts.

Main features of the adidas Solarglide 5

The adidas Solarglide 5 is the latest update of the successful adidas Solarglide series. A daily training shoe aimed at neutral-gait runners looking to complete all kinds of distances on the road, from a 5K to half marathons and full-length marathons.

This model stands out for its excellent reactivity thanks to some of adidas Running's cutting-edge technologies, as detailed below:

The midsole includes hundreds of Boost capsules that release a burst of energy with every step, propelling you to reach maximum performance with every stride. Thanks to the Torsion LEP 2.0 system, the latest evolution of the legendary Torsion system, which accentuates that feeling of stability and reactivity while running.

The upper features Circularknit technology, a stretch knit material that offers a more adaptable fit in the forefoot. This knitted fabric is made of a high-performance yarn created with at least 50% Parley Ocean Plastic, a recycled material from plastic waste collected in coastal areas in order to prevent them from polluting our oceans. We already saw this used in the previous version, the adidas Solarglide 4, and it has already been successfully established in the company's other popular models.

This trainer is evolving towards an increasingly racer aesthetic and now sports an updated midsole.

The outsole with Continental rubber compound ensures excellent traction and grip on different training surfaces, although, of course, it has been optimised for long distances on the road. And apart from its outsole, another significant detail of the adidas Solarglide 5 is that it includes 3 zones with different colours, a feature that tells us that this model has higher profiles, as well as a thicker sole. This is an important detail because it allows the model to adapt to different ways of stepping.

Technical specifications of the adidas Solarglide 5

Enjoy maximum reactivity and stability in your daily workouts. This top-of-the-range cushioned trainer for neutral-gait, heavy-weight runners (above 65-70 kg), is aimed at completing all types of distances on asphalt. In terms of technical specifications, it has a 10 mm drop and weighs 335 grams.

Already on sale with an RRP of 120 GBP, it is available in multiple colour combinations for both men and women.

Review of Adidas Solarglide 5

Wide and firm cushioning and a spectacular sole

I'm not going to lie to you, I really wanted to try them, and finally I've been able to do it. 4 weeks with the adidas SolarGlide 5. One of the best selling adidas daily training running shoes of the moment, and that won't let you down because they come with great improvements to get a very pleasant running experience no matter what your pace or mileage you do.

It is obvious that these adidas Solarglide 5 have undergone a total redesign with respect to their previous versions. All the improvements are aimed at making them a more versatile model, ensuring high levels of comfort, stability and reactivity. But if there is one thing they have focused on, it is to focus on an increasingly wider audience, that of runners who are looking for wide cushioning and that spark in the stride cycle that does not make it an excessively soft shoe. If you opt for these SolarGlide, you are one of those runners who don't care so much about whether their shoes weighs 30 or 40 grams too much, but rather about having a shoe for everything, where durability is assured.

What kind of runners are these adidas SolarGlide 5 for?

The argument in favor of this renewed model of the adidas Solarglide 5 is that it is a shoe that is capable of adapting to different running objectives. In other words, the perfect training shoe that you are looking for for all kinds of workouts, and with which you will be able to move at different paces, depending on your body weight. Good cushioning, stable and reactive tread, that's the winning combination.

We at RUNNEA see them as the ideal shoes for runners up to 85-90 kg who are looking for a model to run at gentle paces over any distance, from a 10k to a marathon.

We recommend them for runners up to 85-90 kg who are looking for a shoe to run at easy paces over any distance, from a 10k to a marathon.

It is an asphalt running shoe but thanks to its outsole you will be able to run with them also on trails or roads. The Continental rubber compound has already become a fixture in the top of the range adidas cushioning shoes, because it provides excellent grip and traction on all types of surfaces, dry and wet. Probably one of the best outsoles on the market.

What we liked the most

Its upper or upper mesh has been manufactured with high performance yarn, the so-called Primeblue Circularknit. And most importantly for us, its base has at least 50% of the exclusive Parley Ocean Plastic, a recycled material made from plastic waste collected from the oceans. Well done, adidas!

The sole is one of the best on the market. An insurance in grip and durability in the market. And here we have to thank Continental for their rubber rubber.

More cushioning and more stability to reach heavier runners with total safety and comfort.

Possible improvements

The only downside we can find in this model is comfort. It is a comfortable running shoe, but it is true that there are models on the market that have focused on this feature.

And its weight. In particular, I do not give it importance, seeing the segment of runners to which it is focused. It is a 330 grams shoe in a size 95 USA. It's clear that it makes up for that with a very ample cushioning and good foot support, but for those of you who prefer the weight of the shoe, maybe it's a point of improvement.

Conclusion

adidas plays it safe. Firm, responsive, roomy cushioning that works. An outsole that is a sure thing. An upper that protects the foot from unwanted movements and a very distinctive design. It also creates shoes with very good durability. These adidas SolarGlide are a clear example of that. I like to sum it up as follows: They are not the most cushioned, they are not the most comfortable, they are not the most reactive, they are not the lightest.... And yet, they are good in each of those aspects. If you want a training shoe, for easy paces, all distances, and with the assurance of durability, these SolarGlide are an excellent travel companion.
