1 / 8The launch of these Adidas Terrex Agravic XT was a little different from what we are used to. Normally passing by the editorial staff of Runnea, is usually enough but this time we were invited to Forum Sport in the Boulevard shopping center in Vitoria where Adidas was going to make the presentation of this new model, the Terrex Agravic XT, to a small group of runners and press.
What was different about the event was that there was going to be a small material test, we were going to be able to try the Agravic XT on the ground and exchange opinions among the attendees.
For the presentation Adidas had chosen one of its flagships in the field of trail, as is the World Trail Champion 2018 IAAF, Luis Alberto Hernando.
With great desire to live the event we moved several components of Runnea to cover all possible aspects, both video, photo and the material test itself.
Let's get into the subject and talk about what was the real focus of attention, Adidas Terrex Agravic XT.
Adidas Terrex Agravic XTT, features and first impressions
As soon as we arrived, the first thing we did was to pick up the material we were going to test and we were curious because our expectations were quite high.
The truth is that these expectations were met simply by holding them in our hands. Trail shoe, lightweight, with a lugged sole that will surely surprise with its traction.
The shoe gives a great feeling in the hand for a trail shoe, one of the things that surprised us directly was the lightness and despite this, the use of the boost makes the cushioning is assured as well as the response.
There was still a little talk about what we were going to do and a brief explanation of the composition of the shoe, what they had thought about when building it and where they wanted to go.
We were anxious to plant ourselves on its natural habitat, the mountain.
The conclusions that we are going to comment below are not only from that day in question, but we have been fortunate to be able to put a lot of kilometers on these Agravic XT and thus be more rigorous in the analysis.
Cushioning and midsole
Some time ago I was lucky enough to try another model from adidas, in this case the Adidas Kanadia TR8, which I liked a lot, but I had a small drawback and that era that they did not have the boost technology, the hallmark of the latest from adidas.
It is true that these Kanadia era a lower range and perhaps the quality/price ratio they had was very tight and if they had had the boost that price would have surely increased.
This time we are going to a mid-high range shoe and in this one the boost is present. It can be seen at a glance, it runs through the midsole from the heel to almost the toe of the shoe.
It can be seen that in the rear part there is more compound than in the front part. Although I think that perhaps a little more material in the midfoot could have been added, not only for cushioning, so that the rocky areas go unnoticed, but also for the reactivity of the compound itself.
It is true that this absence does not detract from the valor of the shoe itself, but perhaps it would add a few more points in both aspects.
Outsole
The outsole is a guarantee of traction, not only because of its tread pattern, but also because of its position. At first glance it may give the feeling of having too much or that perhaps in certain terrains its behavior is not ideal, but after testing these Terrex Agravic XT in different terrains we must say that the behavior is on a scale of good to excellent.
In muddy areas, the fact that the distance between the cleats is large prevents the mud from accumulating and creating a slushy patch all over the outsole and preventing proper traction. Point in favor sn certainly in this section.
Another highlight is the use of Continental compound, already used in other models of the Bavarian brand giving a result both in durability and excellent grip.
Another point in favor is its width that adds a plus of stability during the race. This I have noticed a lot and for the better.
The sole is undoubtedly one of the parts that I liked the most, the performance as a whole has been very good.
Upper and last
In the same line as the cushioning and outsole, are these two parts of the shoe, upper and last.
Regarding the upper, it is worth mentioning the complete absence of seams, using only high quality thermosealing.
The material used for the upper provides good breathability, although it is not its strong point.
On the other hand, the last size can be adapted to different foot morphologies. Not having an excessively narrow or too wide foot can be adjusted perfectly.
The toe is protected by a more consistent thermo-sealing that during the kms that I have made them has not suffered any damage, even having hit a couple of kicks to stones and loose branches.
In the heel area there is a reinforcement for better support and ankle stability without being intrusive or too big. It is thin but does its job perfectly.
The tongue is attached to the sides of the upper which I find very successful, without being a sock.
Interior
The interior of the Agravic XT is a bit austere, it does not have large padding that on the one hand would avoid catching weight in case of getting wet during the race. On the other hand, the collar fits very well, preventing any object from entering the shoe. The insole is about 3mm and gives extra comfort.
Little more to say in this section, it may seem little but there is not much to talk about, either for good or bad.
On the move with the Adidas Terrex Agravic XT
This model from adidas motivates the run, they ask you to run so to speak, theyhave a very good transition, they are relatively flexible, with a drop as we have seen, not very high, which makes you be in contact with nature.
You don't get to have natural running sensations, but they are close. The 7mm drop makes this possible.
Conclusions of the Adidas Terrex Agravic XT
From the first day we tested these Terrex Agravic XT in group, we already realized the good work of Adidas and the comments of the users who were in the test, were practically all praises.
It is clear that they have their weak points and that they are not the 10 shoes, but they are very close. Subsequently with the passage of kms we have been checking that the behavior of all its parts era excellent, leaving aside the adjustment of the laces.
These shoes are designed for runners of average weight, up to 75kg, with neutral tread and who run at a fast pace on trails.
These shoes have a weight of 332gr on the scales, it may seem quite a lot or that they are close to the rest of trail shoes, but the sensations they give when wearing them is not that of a shoe of that weight, they feel much lighter.
These Adidas Terrex Agravic XT, are going to perform several trail running tests with me, because I think they are a very wise lesson, as Luis Alberto said in his presentation, these were going to be his competition shoes without a doubt (I would combine them with another model).
In favor
- Lightweight feel.
- Traction/Grip.
- Last.
Against
