The wait is over. Adidas introduces the new Ultraboost 5X, a shoe designed to deliver the highest energy return and maximum comfort to date in the saga. Since its launch in 2015, Ultraboost has been synonymous with innovation and performance, and the fifth version promises to raise the bar even higher.
Since the first Ultraboost, adidas has sought to redefine the standard for running shoes. The original Ultraboost was hailed for its revolutionary Boost technology, which offered an unprecedented combination of cushioning and energy return. Over the years, we've seen upgrades and the occasional step back with each version: from the Ultraboost 19, which introduced a larger midsole and improved fit, to the Ultraboost 21, which increased the amount of Boost (and also the weight) for added cushioning.
With each new iteration, adidas has sought to improve the design and performance of the Ultraboost, always staying at the forefront of running technology, but it's true that with the 21 and 22 version the specs were not as expected. The adidas Ultraboost 22, for example, introduced a more inclusive design with specific versions for women, adapting better to the female anatomy and offering a more precise fit. But it proved to be too heavy for the general public and too firm in feel. Things got much better with the adidas Ultraboost Light.
The Adidas Ultraboost 5X is a very versatile shoe that is also loaded with technical features designed to enhance your run:
The Ultraboost 5X represents the culmination of years of research and development. This new version incorporates a completely revamped Boost midsole, adding 9 more foam for superior cushioning and 2 increased energy return over the Ultraboost Light. This advancement allows runners to enjoy improved efficiency in every stride. The Boost foam now has a softer feel, appealing to a new audience of runners who prioritize comfort in their footwear.
According to a study conducted by historian Eliza Filby, 60 of 18-24 years old runners lack of energy as the main obstacle when running. This insight has been fundamental for adidas in the development of this new version. "The next generation is under a lot of pressure, they feel disoriented to the global landscape and are very demanding in terms of their time and energy," comments Filby. "Practicing a physical activity like running can be an excellent option to channel this energy in a positive way."
The new LIGHT BOOST midsole not only reduces the weight of the shoe, but also provides more effective cushioning and instant recovery capability, facilitating smoother transitions and increased momentum. The adidas Primeknit upper fits the foot like a glove, optimizing fit and ventilation to keep feet cool during the most intense workouts.
In addition, the adidas Torsion system ensures greater stability from heel to toe, providing a smoother transition with every stride. The combination of these technologies makes the Ultraboost 5X one of the most advanced and comfortable shoes on the market.
The Ultraboost 5X is designed for runners looking to maximize their energy with every step and for those who value supreme comfort. It is ideal for intermediate to advanced runners who train regularly and participate in 5K, 10K or even marathon races. Its ability to provide optimal cushioning and superior energy return makes it perfect for those who want to improve their times and enjoy a more comfortable and efficient running experience.
In addition, the Ultraboost 5 is an excellent choice for runners who value versatility. Whether you're training on asphalt or more uneven trails, this shoe offers the stability and support needed to meet any challenge. The combination of comfort and performance makes it suitable for both intense training sessions and long, demanding runs. Although its fit is more as a rolling shoe for light to medium paces.
The new LIGHT BOOST midsole not only reduces the weight of the shoe, but also provides unparalleled cushioning and instant recovery capability, facilitating smoother transitions and increased momentum. The adidas Primeknit upper fits the foot like a glove, optimizing fit and ventilation to keep feet cool during the most intense workouts.
The Primeknit construction also helps reduce the overall weight of the shoe, making the Ultraboost 5 one of the lightest versions of the saga. This lightness, combined with the softness of the new Boost foam, makes it an ideal choice for runners looking for a comfortable, unrestricted running experience.
"Eighty-two percent of runners who have tried the Ultraboost 5 prefer its energy return to that of their usual shoes, and 70 percent say they enjoy their runs more with them," says Simon Lockett, adidas' director of footwear marketing. These figures underline the power and appeal of the new Ultraboost, which promises not only to improve performance, but also to make the running experience more enjoyable.
The new Boost foam design, with a softer feel, focuses on appealing to runners who prioritize comfort. This feature not only enhances the running experience by reducing foot fatigue, but also helps prevent injuries by providing softer, more even support. Additional cushioning in the heel and forefoot ensures that each step is absorbed efficiently, minimizing impact and allowing for a smoother, more comfortable run.
The Ultraboost 5 is available from July 18 in physical stores and online on the adidas website, and from July 11 exclusively for adiClub members. Priced at 180€, these shoes come in men's and women's versions, with a white and grey aesthetic and orange and pink details that symbolize the burst of energy they provide.
Alongside the Ultraboost 5X, adidas has released the Ultraboost 5 version. Both shoes incorporate all the benefits of the new generation of the Ultraboost saga, including the PRIMEKNIT fabric upper, Torsion system, molded heel reinforcement and Continental outsole, but the Ultraboost 5X weighs 17 grams less, making it a favorite choice for runners who prefer an even lighter footprint. This weight reduction, without compromising performance or cushioning, makes the Ultraboost 5X ideal for those looking for speed and lightness in every stride.
