Year 2017

The Altra King MT shoes are the new addition of the American firm to its catalog for trail running. A completely new model with excellent performance for short races in the most difficult terrain, especially suitable for the expressiveness and demand of the Vertical Kilometers. Thanks to its lightweight yet aggressive design, this trail running shoe offers the perfect balance between speed and performance.

Altra King MT upper design

The upper of the Altra King MT is built for protection and durability. Synthetic overlays line the sides of the shoe and the forefoot area, providing enhanced structure to the design. Some mesh sections keep the shoe ventilated to keep our feet cool during the run. In addition, because of the characteristics of this mesh, the Altra King MT will be able to offer some water resistance as well.

The shoes are closed by means of two systems. Firstly, a classic lacing webbing, which are flat to allow for a better fit and give a more comfortable feel. Secondly, the other closure system consists of a Velcro, placed approximately in the instep area, which allows a customized adjustment of the shoe according to our needs. Thus, for example, we can achieve a looser fit on the climbs, and then easily tighten the shoes to face downhill terrains.

The tongue and collar have a padded material that allows for greater comfort and reinforces the fit. The low profile collar adapts well to the contour of the ankle, although we can miss some more ankle protection, especially if we think that we will use the shoes in difficult terrain, although we must take into account that this design will also allow us greater freedom of movement.

Cushioning of the Altra King MT

In the midsole of the Altra King MT we find a completely new material: Altra EGO. The difference between this material and others that have been used in previous models of Altra Running shoes is that the EGO offers a better response, resulting in greater cushioning without having to increase the density of the material.

As in all its editions, the Altra King MT maintains the zerodrop, meaning that the thickness of the midsole is the same in the heel section as in the forefoot. This allows for a better ground feel and improves the stability of the shoe. As for the midsole density, it has a thickness of 12 millimeters, which ensures optimal underfoot cushioning.

Altra King MT outsoles

Thesoles of the Altra King MT are designed to adapt to the most difficult terrains, with a fairly aggressive design, which incorporates Vibram Megagrip rubber. This compound offers a high level of grip in different terrain conditions.

In addition, the soles feature 7 millimeters of lug prominence, adapting well to different surfaces. The lugs have been strategically arranged so as not to overuse them. This allows for some available space in the soles, which favors flexibility, and also prevents mud and other debris from getting trapped, limiting their functionality.

A totally new addition to the Altra Running catalog, both in features and in the use of materials, but which promises excellent functionality in technical and complicated terrain, with a lightweight design, which will allow us to quickly conquer short distances and vertical kilometers, so are the Altra King MT.
