One of the highlights of Altra at The Running Event, the largest sports retail fair at the end of 2023, was the Altra Vanish Carbon 2. This model returns to the brand's catalogue in the first quarter of 2020, catering to the fastest runners.
The Altra Vanish Carbon 2 is a running shoe with significant modifications and new features aimed at improving weight and speed.
The shoe was a standout at the fair for Altra, offering a new version of one of the brand's fastest daily training shoes. It includes some of the most advanced technologies from the American brand.
The upper is crafted from a lightweight, yet durable mesh that provides excellent ventilation and moisture drainage, enhancing breathability.
Additionally, it features synthetic inserts that encircle the shoe for added protection and stability. The heel collar includes light padding to ensure comfort and a secure fit.
The shoe boasts a more fitted design with the Footshape Toe Box, offering a slim fit while still allowing toes to move naturally without compromising comfort and stability.
It introduces the high-performance Super Shoe Right carbon plate running the full length of the shoe, unlike its predecessor, the Altra Vanish Carbon, which featured a 3 carbon plate.
The midsole features a new version of the brand’s flagship foam, the Altra Ego Pro, which is 17% lighter while maintaining responsiveness.
The outsole is designed to enhance reactivity, with indentations and small lugs at the front that improve performance during workouts and races.
The shoe is a benchmark for mixed usage in both demanding training and competitive settings, suited for fast runners with a light, neutral stride.
It's ideal for marathons, though it is important to note the 0mm drop, which may require an adaptation period for some runners.
A notable new feature is the increased stack height, from 33 mm in the Altra Vanish Carbon to 36mm in this version, while maintaining a 0mm drop.
The shoe weighs 229 grams in the men’s version and retails for £220.
