Since the first release of the Brooks Cascadia trail shoes, they have been designed to offer the athlete a versatile shoe with a good balance of cushioning, support and protection. With an impressive level of traction in a shoe that will not disappoint those who enjoy running on the toughest terrain.
The success of this Brooks edition has been such that in 2017 we get the Brooks Cascadia 12, which as the name suggests is the twelfth version of these shoes, which come with some significant improvements that give it a plus when it comes to becoming one of the favorite shoes for medium to heavy trail runners looking for cushioning, protection and support in equal parts.
Brooks Cascadia 12 Upgrades
Brooks has added important improvements to a shoe that may not have needed them; some of the most noteworthy are the changes in the midsole pivot system, which, while not visible to the naked eye, can be felt when you put them on and start running with them.
Unlike the previous version, instead of two solid blocks in the midfoot and heel, the pivot system now has an X-shape across the entire sole of the shoe, which provides better support. A fifth pivot has also been added to the first metatarsal to improve flexibility and toe-off.
The outsole has also been modified using more aggressive angled lugs in the middle of the shoe, while longer and more widely spaced lugs can be seen all around the outsole, which respond very well in muddy areas.
While there are some changes around the exterior design, in general terms the Brooks Cascadia 12 shoes maintain their characteristics with respect to the predecessor versions; their weight increases 85 grams for a total of 343 grams in the men's version and 300 grams in the women's version.
Roomy and durable upper
The upper of this new edition offers a wider space in the forefoot area, while the lacing system that joins with the overlays on the sides, allow a customized fit that perfectly accommodates runners of medium build, but also those with a wider foot.
BioMoGo DNA
The BioMoGo DNA system that has already been used by Brooks in other editions of running shoes, we will also find it in the Brooks Cascadia 12 It is a cushioning technology that besides being soft is very comfortable. This midsole has the characteristic of molding to the shape of the runner's foot so that it offers a platform with better support according to the natural curvatures of the foot.
When this technology is added to the aforementioned pivots in the outsole, better foot balance is achieved even on unpredictable surfaces, keeping the foot in place and preventing slippage. While these technologies allow the foot to stay comfortable and secure, some runners might miss a better feel for the terrain, which was already noticeable with the previous version.
Although the price of these shoes has been said to be slightly higher, they continue to be an excellent choice in trail running footwear, thanks to their cushioning systems and optimal level of support.
