Photos Brooks Divide 4
1 / 4The new version of the Brooks Divide 4, the American brand's shoe aimed at those who are new to the world of trail running, is now available and it incorporates small innovations while retaining the essence of the range.
The Brooks Divide 4 is a trail running shoe that, in this new version, is clearly committed to sustainability, as more than 55% of the materials used in the manufacture of its upper are recycled.
Main features of the Brooks Divide 4
During recent seasons, Brooks has been betting heavily on the trail running segment and this shoe is a prime example, as it is not intended for seasoned mountain race enthusiasts but for those who are just starting out and need a model to begin with, which offers a good value for money without the most advanced technologies the brand has to offer.
The new version introduces some small innovations with respect to the Brooks Divide 3, especially in the use of recycled materials during manufacturing, as the shoe's major change and revolution took place in the previous version.
The upper of the Brooks Divide 4 features a running shoe fit, with an updated mesh that improves breathability, while on the front and rear of the shoe we highlight the protections to provide peace of mind while running on trails or forest paths.
The shoe's midsole features DNA LOFT cushioning developed by the brand itself that provides a smooth and fluid ride from asphalt to trails, while the wide lugs provide the necessary grip on surfaces with a little more technical difficulty.
The technology on the outsole of the shoe is TrailTack Rubber, which ensures good traction on both wet and dry surfaces, as well as providing the necessary durability that all training shoes should have.
Trail runner profile of the Brooks Divide 4
The Brooks Divide 4 is a good shoe for runners who want to start in the exciting world of trail running. A perfect shoe to safely make that transition from asphalt to the mountain, falling into the category of door-to-trail shoes. Geared towards neutral runners, it offers quality response in distances ranging from 10K to a marathon.
Technical specifications of the Brooks Divide 4
With a weight of almost 300 grams in the men's version (295 grams) and 264 grams in the women's version and with a drop of 8 mm, the Brooks Divide 4 is a good shoe to run with confidence from the door of the house on asphalt to the trails and tracks near urban centers. Its outsole ensures reliable traction, while the DNA LOFT technology offers effective cushioning for our workouts.

Brooks Divide 4, a very interesting "door to trail" option for reliability, running experience and affordable price
If you are a trail running looking for a "light" trail running or "Door to Trail" shoe , to easily go from the sidewalk to the mountain, here is a great choice: the Brooks Divide 4 goes easily from the asphalt to the mountain, and from the mountain to the asphalt. Its grippy traction, standard but comfortable cushioning and breathable upper are the main keys to this model from the American brand.
A fit inspired by asphalt shoes but with a design somewhat more adapted to be able to run comfortably in the mountains.
Runner profile of the Brooks Divide 4
A perfect model for runners who want to have a similar feeling to running shoes for road running, but gradually entering the mountains. For comfortable, smooth paces and to get used to the mountain terrain from less to more.
A weight of 295 grams in trail running shoes for men and 265 grams in the women's model, and a drop of 8 millimeters (20 mm in the heel and 12 mm in the metatarsals).
Recommended distances of the Brooks Divide 4
These "door to trail" Brooks Divide 4 shoes are a versatile and multipurpose option, designed to provide excellent performance over a wide range of distances and terrains. From short 8 to 10 kilometer outings on roads and close trails, to long distance challenges such as a marathon over not overly technical surfaces, these Brooks Running shoes are able to adapt and offer a high level of comfort and grip.
What are the strengths of the Brooks Divide 4?
Their rugged construction and multi-directional traction allow them to confidently tackle varied terrain, such as packed dirt roads, gravel trails or even moderate root and rocky sections. Whether it's a multi-hour endurance workout or a mid-distance trail run, the Brooks Divide 4 will provide firm support and adequate cushioning to keep up the pace and enjoy the adventure.
Even over more demanding distances, such as an alpine marathon over not overly technical terrain, these shoes prove their ability to keep up with runners mile after mile.
Their balanced design between traction, cushioning and stability will allow you to maintain a steady pace and face the challenges of the course with confidence.
What we liked most about the Brooks Divide 4
One of the strong points of this model is the extra traction provided by its rubber outsole with TrailTack compound, the same one used in all of Brooks' high-end trail shoes, both in wet and dry terrain and has a great resistance to wear. Although thanks to its lugs, not very pronounced (4 mm) but very close together, this traction is far superior on compact terrain. It makes sense when it comes to a model that is going to move from asphalt to the mountain.
Another point that I liked was its comfort, with a chassis in the heel area that provides greater structure to the model and with a lacing adjustment that reinforces the shoes support. Good ventilation provided by its unique and updated mesh, and a reinforced toe cap and sidewalls give us the peace of mind we need to run on mountain terrain. A tough mudguard liner offers great protection on off-road trails.
As usual with the Brooks tongue, an elastic strap is incorporated to tuck in the excess lacing, a good option to avoid accidental snags when running in overgrown areas.
Opportunities for improvement of the Brooks Divide 4
Considering the type of shoe we are talking about, as well as its great quality/price ratio, the truth is that it is a reliable option to which we can't put many "buts". Perhaps, it lacks a little more dynamism in that running experience, as well as that I noticed a somewhat hard landing in the forefoot. Although this is more of a personal opinion, for the record.
What other "door to trail" shoes can we compare these Brooks Divide 4's to?
When it comes to comparing these Brooks Divide 4 with their main direct rivals, I'll tell you which models they are:

The North Face Vectiv Enduris III
The Brooks Divide 4 are a good option if you...
With everything I've told you about these revamped Brooks Divide 4, they'll be your go-to running shoe if:
- You live in urban areas but close to nature.
- If you are one of those who like to leave the asphalt and get into paths and trails close to the city.
- If you are just starting out in trail running but don't yet have the experience and skill necessary to get into more technical areas.
For all these reasons I highly recommend this latest version of the Brooks Divide 4 , which also stands out for its great value for money.
