Features of the Brooks Glycerin GTS 20

The Brooks Glycerin GTS 20 is a maximally cushioned road running shoes recommended for runners who need added support for pronation. Basically, they have the same features in terms of design and structure of the Brooks Glycerin 20, but with the added support technology developed by the American company.

We are not far off the mark if we say that this running shoe is one of the models with the best feel and softness on the market. The cushioning and comfort can be seen as soon as you put them on, and that feeling continues throughout your training session or competition. In addition, with the extra support it provides the necessary security for the foot to land and take off in the most appropriate and efficient way possible.

Ideal runner of the Brooks Glycerin GTS 20

These Brooks are designed almost exclusively for runners of medium-high weight who need a slight correction due to their pronator tendency. In terms of paces, we can say that they are true runners, so it will be at calm paces where we will get the most out of them, more or less at paces above 4:5 min/km. Despite being a daily training shoe, runners whose goal is to finish a race between the 10k and 42k without worrying about the pace or the final mark will be able to use these Glycerin as a racing shoe.

Technical specifications of the Brooks Glycerin GTS 20

The greatest strength of this model is undoubtedly its cushioning capacity. The nitrogen-injected DNA LOFT V3 technology incorporated in the midsole provides ultra-soft cushioning optimized to be lightweight, durable, responsive and comfortably cushioned.

This GTS version, unlike its sister Glycerin 20, features GuideRails technology, which means that the stride is not so internalized and the leg structures, such as the ankle, knees or hips, do not suffer in the same way at every impact.

Fit is another aspect that should not be overlooked. The upper is made with a very cushioned and pleasant Air Mesh, which is also very breathable. The foot is very protected, secure and safe to accumulate a lot of kilometers without any concern.

These running shoes for men and women have an adherent and durable sole, which incorporates the rubber compound in areas with greater impact, leaving certain gaps, where the foam of the midsole area is appreciated.

The Brooks Glycerin GTS 20 has a 10mmdrop and weighs 298 grams. This is a top of the range model with maximum cushioning for those pronator runners who need a shoe with support assistance for long and long runs.

Brooks Glycerin GTS 20: the perfect balance between comfort and performance

I love long runs! Going out at a leisurely pace and lasting a long time... travelling while running. In fact, I'm preparing for a 100 km road race, which is nothing but a long running trip. To that end, I'm constantly on the lookout for the perfect pair of running shoes.

A month ago, the RUNNEA team asked me to test the Brooks Gyclerin GTS 20 running shoes. I've already tested several Brooks shoes, and I have to say that I agree with their "Run Happy" philosophy. But let's focus on the test itself.

In this review, I will provide you with a detailed overview of the Brooks Glycerin GTS 20 stability running shoes. I will also share my personal experiences during my long training sessions as I prepare for my epic race.

What kind of runners is the Brooks Glycerin GTS 20 for?

Firstly, it's important to understand that there are two models of the iconic Brooks Glycerin:

It sounds simple, but... What does "support" mean? Specifically, it refers to a slight elevation on the inside of the foot and at heel height that corrects and stabilises your stride.

This feature addresses overpronation correction, but Brooks prefers not to use this term. I had the good fortune to meet with Brooks' product people at the presentation of the Brooks Ghost 15 and the Brooks Hyperion Max, and they told us that at a biomechanical level, everyone has a neutral gait generally, but the foot sometimes lands differently. And if your foot often lands a certain way, you have to support it without being too invasive. This is the rationale behind the GTS model, which offers additional support for runners with mild to moderate overpronation. This feature makes it an excellent choice for those looking to maintain a stable stride without sacrificing comfort.

Whether you're a beginner runner looking to improve your fitness or an experienced runner preparing for a long-distance race, the Brooks Glycerin GTS 20 offers the versatility to meet any and all of your needs. It's also suitable for daily training and shorter-distance races.

What I liked most about the Brooks Glycerin GTS 20

In this section, it's all about analysing the strengths of the Glycerin GTS 20 from Brooks:

Superior cushioning for long-distance runs

One of the most impressive features of the Brooks Glycerin GTS 20 is undoubtedly its exceptional cushioning. Thanks to DNA LOFT V3 technology, this trainer offers soft and responsive cushioning, the softest in the Brooks Running range, which has been especially noticeable on my long runs. More specifically in those that have ranged from 20 to 70 kilometres. A continuous effort that is allowing me to prepare for my big goal of the year: the 100k Millau race in France.

During these workouts, the comfort provided by the cushioning capacity of this model has been essential to maintain my pace and motivation. The Brooks Glycerin GTS 20 allowed me to keep my feet cool and pain-free, even after hours of running. This is a real advantage for long-distance runners who understand the importance of good cushioning without compromising energy efficiency and stride effectiveness.

GuideRails support for stability

The GuideRails technology built into the Brooks Glycerin GTS 20 is a real asset, especially when tackling the uphills and downhills during my training sessions. During long runs, I often include small hill climbs spanning 2 to 3 kilometres. This technology helps control my pronation, resulting in a more stable and consistent stride and consistent support, especially as my legs begin to tire.

Breathable design for hot days

The mesh upper offers optimal breathability, an essential feature on hot days. During my long summer workouts, my feet have stayed cool and comfortable, and that, of course, has improved overall performance.

The upper is designed in such a way that it ensures a custom fit, and also prevents discomfort related to unwanted movements of my feet.

Versatility

The Brooks Glycerin GTS 20 offers exceptional versatility for long-distance runners, regardless of their level. Thanks to a wide and optimised outsole, my transitions between strides have been more fluid and natural, thus improving my overall stability.

While not the most responsive running shoe, this Glycerin GTS 20 shoe is ideal for long-distance running and daily training

Opportunities for improvement in the Brooks Glycerin GTS 20

Now that we've detailed all of its strengths, let's address areas where the Brooks Glycerin GTS 20 could improve:

Slight loss of reactivity

Despite its comfort and stability I have noticed that the Brooks Glycerin GTS 20 is slightly less reactive than other Brooks models I had tested in the past. This means that it may not be the best choice for runners focused on speed and maximum performance, but it's still ideal for long distance running.

Fit for slim feet

If you have slim feet, you may need to tighten the laces more to avoid excessive foot movement inside the shoe. The toe cap, while wide, can still leave some room if you have thinner feet. However, this has not been a significant problem for me, as my feet tend to widen during long runs.

What models can the Brooks Glycerin GTS 20 be compared to?

Final conclusion about the Brooks Glycerin GTS 20

The Brooks Glycerin GTS 20 is an exceptional running shoe that offers a perfect balance between comfort and performance.

It is ideal for long-distance runners who value cushioning and stability over high reactivity.

In my ultra-distance race preparation on asphalt, these Brooks Glycerin GTS 20 daily training shoes have proven to be reliable and dependable companions. They are able to provide the support and comfort needed to take on this big challenge at the end of September.

If you're looking for a versatile and comfortable running shoe for your training and long-distance runs, and if you need support in your stride, the Brooks Glycerin GTS 20 is a solid choice. Trust it to help you push your limits and reach new heights in your running career. After all, a reliable pair of running shoes is any runner's best ally.
