Having never tried a Brooks running shoe before, I was looking forward to this moment, and it has finally arrived! I've had the opportunity to try the Brooks Revel 6, and after 26 days running with them, I must tell you that if you are looking for a functional and accessible shoe, this Brooks model is an option you should consider, especially for being one of the most versatile proposals of the American brand.
Within the Brooks Energize line, the Revel 6 stands out for its DNA midsole and affordable price, which makes it an excellent choice if you are looking for premium shoes without investing too much money.
Type of runner the Brooks Revel 6is aimed at
The Brooks Revel 6 are aimed at a wide range of runners, but in my opinion, they are ideal for medium-lightweight runners looking for a competent, lightweight shoe for their daily workouts and fast paces.
In terms of recommended distances, the Revel 6 are perfect mostly for short to medium distance outings. Their cushioning and design make them suitable for runs of up to 10 kilometers, although they can also handle slightly longer distances if you have a refined running technique. If you don't have that more refined technique, I wouldn't recommend them for longer distances as they are a standard cushioning shoe.
What I liked most about the Brooks Revel 6
One of the aspects I want to highlight about the Brooks Revel 6 is its versatility, as I have used them for both running and walking, and they have become one of my favorite shoes for everyday use. In addition, their DNA midsole offers balanced cushioning, adequate responsiveness and provides a firm yet comfortable feel underfoot. The extra 2mm of cushioning that Brooks has added in the heel for improved comfort is noticeable.
The upper is another plus for the Revel 6, as with its flat one-piece design, you feel how it fits and hugs the foot, as well as offering very good breathability.
And on the other hand, I find it interesting to comment that its upper is made of 597 recycled materials, making special emphasis on Brooks' focus on sustainability.
Another part that I liked and that I think is important to highlight is its Green Rubber outsole, and its arrow-shaped pattern makes transitions during the race faster and more efficient. In addition, being made entirely out of rubber, it ensures good durability, which is a very favorable point for a shoe in this price range.
Possible improvements for the Brooks Revel 6
Although Revel 6 have many things going for them, there are some aspects that, at least for my runner profile and foot type, could be improved. For example, the heel fit is a bit lower than I'm used to, as I usually wear shoes with a higher heel. However, this is just a matter of getting used to it and other runners may find it comfortable right out of the box.
On the other hand, the cushioning is adequate for short to medium distances, but might not be enough for runners looking for more protection on longer runs. Therefore, if you don't have a very refined technique, I wouldn't recommend these shoes for long distances.
