Joma R5000 Runner Profile

FlyingShoe aimed at runners weighing less than 70 kilos who are looking for the best lightness, the best cushioning and a groundbreaking design.

With a lowdrop of 6 millimeters and an approximate weight of 167 grams, this "featherweight" Joma is aimed at runners with a neutral stride, and who are under 70 kilos. It should be taken into account that, as a good flying shoe, this one requires a certain refined running technique to get the most out of its performance.

For all the features that bring these renewed Joma R5000 it is a shoe designed to compete, but you can also use them for those more intensive training and quality series, as well as to compete in all kinds of distances.

Joma R5000, the most outstanding main features

The cushioning found in the midsole is provided by the FOAM REACTIVE system developed by the same brand, which helps absorb impacts in each stride while allowing you to take off at high speed without getting too high off the ground, thus saving energy.

Features and prices of the Joma R 5000

The outsole of the Joma R 5000 is formed by the DURABILITY system that maintains the quality of the high density rubber providing maximum durability and resistance to wear. Joma has developed an exhaustive biomechanical study of the technical runner's stride to reduce the sole exclusively to the points where the sole of the foot has contact with the surface, thus contributing to the shoe's great lightness.

The upper features a mesh upper with custom nylon fabric and TPU, making the shoe look and feel lighter and stronger. While the outsole has chosen to implement a high-intensity rubber rubber, being able to withstand a higher degree of abrasion.

On the other hand, an important detail of these Joma R5000 is that the EVA insole is pre-molded, and is more adjusted to the last of the foot.

Technologies used in the Joma R5000

  • 360º

Consisting of a manufacturing system, whose argument in favor is focused on improving the existing union between the sole and the upper. In this way, the forces of the impacts are distributed in a more natural way during the whole cycle of the footprint.

  • Sportech

Injected rubber is injected to eliminate seams and stiffer materials in the upper. The result is lighter weight, more comfort, better flexibility and adaptation to the foot. In addition, thicknesses are adjusted to meet the needs of resistance and protection in strategic areas.

  • VTS

This refers to the ventilation system to promote breathability. It is a technology that also allows you to keep your temperature constant, and therefore, try to avoid overheating of the foot.

  • Durability

This is a highly resistant rubber, whose function is to delay wear due to abrasion. The bi-directional lugs improve grip and traction, and focus on favoring ascents and descents.

  • Balance System

This system inserts a rigid plate between the sole and the midsole, preventing torsion and providing greater stability on rougher terrain.

  • Stabilis

A TPU piece, included in the narrowest part of the sole, which prevents unnecessary twisting and ensures greater stability.

Review of Joma R5000 22

24 May 2023

Our testers tell you their opinion:

7.8

Joma R5000, a shoe for experienced runners with good running technique

The first impression when I saw and touched them was clear, I was in front of a very light and fast shoe with a retro design, which honestly, I liked a lot. Clearly with these Joma R500 we are looking at a shoe aimed at a runner with experience and good running technique, so it was also a challenge for me. And no wonder, since it is the fastest Joma shoe. If we exclude the Joma R3000 with carbon plate from the equation.

The upper of the shoe is made of a high quality, flexible breathable mesh that fits the foot well, increasing comfort during workouts and competitions. In addition, the midsole features FOAM REACTIVE technology and the outsole uses a durable rubber formed by the DURABILITY system, which offers good traction and durability on different surfaces.

Joma R-5000 ideal runner type

The Joma R-5000 is designed especially for fast, experienced runners with good running technique. When you look at it, you can see that it is a shoe with minimal cushioning and a low profile, which means that the runner's technique is going to be a determining factor in their performance.

With a 6-millimeterdrop and a weight of around 167 grams, this "featherweight"shoe is designed for runners looking for a lightweight, high-performance shoe with a refined running technique to make the most of all its features.

It's a good choice for runners with neutral stride and light weight under 70kg, and in my case I fit the profile. As for paces, I think it could be recommended for paces of 4:30min/km and below.

Recommended distances

In my opinion, the Joma R-5000 are very comfortable and stable shoes that are well suited for short distances and high intensity workouts. I have run up to 21 kilometers with them and have had no problems. However, where they have responded best to me is in daily short distance workouts and series. They are also a good option for competitions of 5 to 10 kilometers, which is where you can get the most out of them.

What I liked the most

What I liked most about the Joma R-5000 is its lightness. Also, compared to other shoes I've worn, I've noticed that these have good shock absorption and very adequate support in the heel and arch area of the foot. This has allowed me to run with greater security and confidence.

Another factor to highlight of these R-5000 is its great value for money, and is that Joma has accustomed us to offer us racing and training shoes for all budgets, away from those high prices that are trend in high-performance racing shoes, in general, and especially with running shoes with carbon plate.

It is a perfect shoes for runners who want or are looking for a shoe for short distances, and who want to perform their workouts or series on both asphalt and tartan track.

Opportunities for improvement

One thing I have missed is a little more cushioning. Being a lightweight, minimalist shoes, the cushioning can be insufficient when hitting the ground depending on what surfaces you are running on. Where I noticed it most was in areas with pebbles or more prominent asphalt. And because of this, the durability of the outsole is less.

Final Conclusions about the Joma R5000

All in all, the Joma R5000 have exceeded my expectations. When I first saw them I wasn't sure if they would really be a good option for me, but after using them for several weeks in daily training on asphalt but mostly on tartan, I can say that they have more than fulfilled their function.

Definitely, it is a super light and reactive neutral shoe without carbon plate, for short distances and for experienced runners with good running technique, who get paces under 4'30''/km.
