The fourth installment of Merrell s Bare Access running shoes offers a shoe in the minimalist line, with an excellent response in short runs and with an internal and external design that allows the athlete to have total control of his performance during the run. Unlike their predecessors whose upper had a single-layer mesh, the Merrell Bare Access 4 now have a more robust design that keeps the foot protected and makes them more durable.

These shoes have been designed to provide a very lightweight experience for the runner; with a 0 mm drop the Bare Access is ideal for athletes who already have experience in natural running and are prepared for the technical demands of racing. Some features that can be seen in these shoes are detailed below.

Lightweight and durable upper

As we have mentioned, these shoes have a revamped upper design to give more durability to the shoe; the mesh offers better resistance and its holes facilitate the passage of air to keep the shoe ventilated at all times. The upper section has also reduced the number of seams and overlays to have a smoother surface that prevents chafing and irritation to the foot.

The synthetic overlays on the sides of the shoe are designed to give the shoe a firmer fit and extend to the heel line to improve the fit in this area of the foot. The inside of the shoe features an antimicrobial lining that eliminates odor-causing bacteria and keeps the shoe fresh at all times.

An EVA foam insole has been added to the top of the midsole to give better cushioning to the foot without adding weight to the Merrell Bare Access 4; this insole also features the M-Select Fresh antimicrobial coating.

Improved ground feel

MBound is a technology incorporated into the midsole of these shoes that is designed to offer improved responsiveness between the ground and the athlete's foot. While it cushions the stride making the stride smoother, it also allows the foot to be closer to the ground, so the runner will have a better feel for the surface. Adding to this technology is the compression molded EVA foam or CMEVA that adds durability to this section of the running shoe.

The Bare Access outsole features Vibram technology, which is a series of grooves that extend throughout the outsole and offer durability, protection and a good level of traction to the shoe. Flexible grooves in the forefoot allow the stride to develop more naturally throughout the run without diminishing comfort.

Finally, it is important to remember that as a minimalist shoe, it is not suitable for those who are new to running or do not yet have a good technique and experience in the sport; however, for those looking for a drop shoe, the Merrell Bare Access 4 is an affordable and quality option.
