The fourth version of the 1400 from New Balance is catalogued as that non-radical flying shoe for neutral runners compared to other sagas of the North American firm such as the 1600. Ideal for running at fast paces and also for competition, and that stand out above those of its category for its great lightness, cushioning and stability. The 1400 v4 is included in the New Balance"racing" catalog, a detail that hints at the use that can be given to this shoe.

Apparently the New Balance 1400 v4 does not incorporate major innovations with respect to its predecessor model, although there are small changes that contribute to certify the evolution of this model for faster runners on asphalt. That is, improved upper, and more cushioning.

In the cushioning section, the REVlite midsole continues to be the main protagonist. However, the American brand has changed the grooving system with the idea of improving the shoe's response in both the landing and toe-off phases.

Increased ground contact

The rubber outsole of the NB 1400 v4 is made with the NEndurance system, which, in addition to offering a secure grip (wet or dry surface), gives the runner the sensation of greater contact with the ground. This technology also contributes to the shoe's increased durability, while at the same time reinforcing flexibility, thanks to the arrangement of the grooves on the sides.

On the other hand, the front part of the sole is thicker, something that increases the performance of the NB 1400 v4 for long-distance races -including marathons-.

The different rubber hardnesses improve the traction of the model, even on wet terrain.

Better support with the Fantom Fit system

The most notable changes in the 1400 v4 are located in its upper, which has been renewed with a lighter, more breathable, seamless mesh that sits on a mesh of overlapping thermo-sealed elements. This is what New Balance calls the Fantom Fit system, and its mission is to improve the support of this flying running shoe.

Along these lines, the New Balance 1400 v4 brings with it a heel counter for improved stability. The Boston-based manufacturer's signature "N" logo not only provides an aesthetic function, but also has a functional aspect, as it includes a reflective finish for running in low visibility conditions.

All in all, the New Balance 1400 v4 has a 10-millimeterdrop. Although the weight has increased compared to its predecessor, this shoe is still ultralight with its 206 grams for the men's version (size 42.5EU) and 177 grams for the women's model (size 39EU). As the American firm itself points out: "Every second counts on race day," and the New Balance 1400 v4 is the first step to increasing your speed on the road.
