Introducing the New Balance 870v4. A shoe aimed at runners of medium or low weight and designed as a mixed shoe for those looking for stability and foot strike control. And the reality is that these New Balance 870v4 are excellent shoes although they vary very little from the New Balance 870 v3. The current model is lighter and the drop goes from 10mm to 8 mm. And why? Because they seek to reach a wider segment of runners. The improvements we are going to find in this fourth release are going to be aesthetic, somewhat more cushioned and they have tried to improve the fit.
Despite being a pronation shoe, it is not a severe stability control. So it can also be an option for runners who will need some support to avoid putting their foot in every step.
It is designed for long runs, so it is an excellent choice for half marathons and marathons.
Pronation is controlled with a high density foam that works to limit that movement in the midfoot area. In addition, the heel of the shoe has been worked on so that now that the foot dances hands thanks to an anti-slip system and keeps the foot more controlled.
Large midsole
As already known in the brand, cushioning and responsiveness come from the hand of ABZORB technology and RevLite foam. Its 8 mm drop allows a softer heel landing than with higher drops and in addition to good shock absorption we get a smoother transition. In this transition is where the RevLite foam comes into play, which has enough reactivity and lightness to generate a soft rebound effect that helps you in the take-off of the stride.
Outsole almost unchanged
Here there are hardly any changes. Rubber of different densities and placed on the midsole to protect especially those areas most exposed to impacts and friction. The final grip is very good and the Ndurance carbon rubber layer in the heel area and the outer part of the sole stands out.
Who do we recommend the New Balance 870 v4 to?
A shoe that can be adapted to medium weights up to 75 kg and for runners with mild or even moderate pronation or neutral footprint but with poor running technique or who tend to pronate over the kilometers.
Very good option for long runs at all paces. And an interesting option as a rotational shoe with a flyer as a complement for speed training.
