The New Balance 910v4 is a durable and versatile trail running shoe that handles different types of terrain perfectly. They stand out for their comfortable fit, responsiveness and rock protection plate. They are technical trail running shoes that combine protective cushioning and aggressive traction.
The evolution of these shoes compared to previous models is impressive, the changes have been oriented to provide a higher level of protection, support and also to make them more durable. Here are the highlights of the New Balance 910 V4.
The 910v4 includes a number of thoughtful improvements compared to last year's New Balance 910v3. The biggest changes are in the uppers, which have new protective TPU overlays instead of the stitched elements of the previous version. The overlays protect the toes, this shoe offers fantastic protection and excellent durability, keeping the feet safe from any loose debris.
The updated mesh fabric continues to offer enhanced comfort and breathability. Some users may find the mesh in the forefoot section, relatively thin and the fabric too open, which may allow some dust to sneak in.
The midsole has been made with New Balance s lightweight and patented RevLite foam, constructed with a moderate 25mm rearfoot and 17mm forefoot stack height (heel to heel drop is 8mm). RevLite technology provides lightweight, responsive cushioning.
Midsole comfort is responsive throughout training, admittedly the foam compound provides good responsiveness and durability, no doubt RevLite offers lightweight construction without sacrificing cushioning and underfoot stability, being 30% lighter than foam in other shoes on the market.
Hydrohesion rubber provides sticky traction that holds up well on wet surfaces. Rock Stop technology located between the outsole and midsole is a flexible layer that protects feet from rocks and disperses impact. Beveled Heel system provides a smooth transition from heel to toe.
Compared to previous models, the outsole has some minor changes in lug placement and design, particularly at the back of the heel and under the midfoot. Overall, the 910v4 is a versatile trail shoe that a wide range of runners will be happy with, as it can train on a variety of terrain.
The standout feature of the 910v4 is the rock plate, which extends across the entire forefoot. Because the 910v4 has a relatively lowdrop(8mm), the plate helps when it comes to avoiding hurting yourself on the sharpest rocks and unforeseen obstacles on the trail.
The bumper in the toe area is low profile, it has been integrated almost seamlessly into the front of the shoe, but it is not as robust as what we can find in models like the La Sportiva Akyra or the Altra Lone Peak 3.0.
In terms of comfort the New Balance 910 V4 are built on a relatively standard base, the forefoot area fits well, but is not very wide. keep that in mind if you have a wide foot. They do, however, support the midfoot securely.
There is much to note in the New Balance 910 v4 trail running shoes, throughout the review it is evident that New Balance has not skimped on giving this new version all the elements of safety, comfort and durability you would expect from a shoe of this type.
