Year 2016

In honor of the wildest, wildest and smallest island of the Canary Islands, the new Fresh Foam Hierro becomes the second edition of the successful Fresh Foam 980 model in its trail running version of the American brand. And these are designed for trail runners and all-terrain runners.

In terms of technological advances, it does not bring revolutionary changes compared to its predecessor, since New Balance continues to bet on the formula that has worked well in the Fresh Foam 980. Despite presenting an aesthetic more typical of a running shoe for asphalt than for trail, this new version of New Balance ensures good stability and response, even on more technical terrain, since its midsole and outsole do not include new features. So it can be said that the Fresh Foam Hierro is very much in line with the best-selling New Balance Leadville.

Its midsole features New Balance Balance's patented Fresh Foam cushioning system - in the form of concave-convex hexagonal cells - which brings stability and comfort to the shoe. Even a touch of firmness, which allows it to defend with guarantees on more technical surfaces.

Aggressive and durable outsole

In the outsole of the Fresh Foam Hierro, New Balance has resorted to presenting its exclusive yellow rubber, discarding the Vibram outsole used in the Leadville. In addition, its bi-directional hexagon lug pattern is much more aggressive, reinforcing grip and traction in any direction. Like many trail running models, the Fresh Foam Hierro performs better on dry surfaces than on wet ones. Although the big plus point of this model is that its outsole is very resistant to abrasion.

The small changes appear in the upper of the Fresh Foam Hierro, in which a synthetic mesh has been incorporated , without seams and thermo-sealed reinforcements, making the model lighter and more comfortable. Breathability has also been improved, while the tongue is attached to the shoe to prevent stones from entering the interior. In addition, the internal Premium Ortholite insole provides additional cushioning for arch support and comfort.

With the new Fresh Foam Hierro, the North American company is focused on gaining ground and catching up with reference models such as the Saucony Xodus, Asics Trabuco, Brooks Cascadia or Salomon Wings.

The Fresh Foam Hierro also has a 4 mm drop and weighs 325 grams. Designed for neutral runners.
