Year 2023

We already know the first details of one of the classic cut shoes for lovers of New Balance, neutral tread and wide and safe cushioning. We are talking about the New Balance Fresh FoamX 880 v13. A running shoe for runners up to 80-85 kg who are looking for a model with high drop (12 mm), for their runs at slow and medium paces. A very versatile training shoe that provides extra support and protection during the race. And watch out for a layer of FuelCell foam (the fastest and most reactive of the brand) in the forefoot area to give some sparkle to the shoe.

In addition, this new version comes with important new features. To begin with, it has undergone a complete remodeling that gives it a more modern look without losing its essence, as it is one of the favorite models of runners looking for shoes more traditional and less risky concept.

Its Fresh Foam X cushioning is soft and comfortable but with a higher density than in other models such as the 1080v13 for example, the feel is somewhat firmer. But we will find (as in the New Balance Fresh FoamX 880v12) a layer of FuelCell foam that provides a certain boost at toe-off.

For what kind of runners do we recommend the New Balance 880 v13?

Mainly runners weighing no more than 85 kg who are looking for a training shoes for their daily runs at a pace no faster than 4:30 m/km. For all distances including marathon. And for running on asphalt or even dirt tracks or trails without technical difficulty.

And these 880v13 are committed to providing comfort to the runner from a wide and soft tongue to a padded collar that protects very well the entire ankle and achilles joint.

The New Balance 880v13 is expected to be released in the second half of 2023.

Review of New Balance Fresh FoamX 880 v13

One of the best classic-cut running shoes for your relaxed pace runs

If you are a traditional runner who likes to run with a high drop, a design without too much fuss, good cushioning, good foot support, good durability and also a price that is not too high, the New Balance Fresh FoamX 880 v13 is your runningshoes. We almost don't need to continue with the analysis of the new update of the most reliable shoe (in my humble opinion) of the Boston brand. A shoe that won't let you down, as it delivers exactly what it promises and that in this 13th edition is presented with just a few changes compared to the previous version. But why change something that works so well?

For what type of runners do we recommend the New Balance Fresh FoamX 880 v13?

The New Balance Fresh FoamX 880 v13 is a rollingrunning shoes. To run at medium and easy paces in your runs from a 10k to a marathon even. Ideal to have only one pair of shoes in your closet. That pair of shoes that you will be able to use if your weight does not exceed 85 kg and you run to get in shape, to unwind from a day's work or for that soft run in preparation for your half marathon. It is a very versatile model for runners who mainly heel (they have a 10 mm drop ) and have a neutral stride. Auqneu if you do not have an efficient running technique and tend to pronate with the onset of fatigue, these 880v13 will provide sufficient support and support.

What didn't we like most about the New Balance Fresh FoamX 880 v13?

It's a shoe that maintains the essence of the models of yesteryear. Great comfort and soft cushioning (although somewhat firmer than for example the New Balance Fresh FoamX 1080v12).

Its new upper incorporates a new perforated engineered mesh that offers very good breathability but also foot support.

I like the combination of its two foams: Fresh FoamX in the heel area mainly to provide soft cushioning for landing, and Fuelcell from the midfoot to the forefoot area, to provide more reactivity in the stride cycle and final toe-off.

The outsole varies little from the previous version. It covers practically the entire support surface except for the central part of the heel. It offers a very good grip and above all a lot of durability as it is a good runner. The rubber height is 5 mm. Something that can penalize a few grams the weight of the shoe but that I at least appreciate because it gives the shoe much more life.

Possible points of improvement New Balance Fresh FoamX 880 v13

I think this is going to be the only shoe where I'm not going to bring any points of improvement. For me it is the perfect shoe for runners who are looking for a model to run at gentle paces, for profiles up to 80-85 kg. They are comfortable, their midsole is a joy, they have some support and a high 10 mm drop for heel runners. Their weight is contained300 grams in a 43 Eu and 258 in a 37 Eu). And you can find them on the market for less than 140€.

Conclusion

Maybe I can be noticed that next to the Mizuno Wave Rider and Pegasus saga, the New Balance 880 are without a doubt my favorite running shoes. If what you're looking for matches what they promise, take my word for it, you won't be disappointed. An improved classic concept that responds by offering great running comfort. Undoubtedly a must-have shoe in my running closet.
