New Balance FuelCell Prism, a versatile shoe for training and fast runs

This is the first time I have worn and run with a New Balance and, after several weeks of training and testing at different paces, I have to say that these New Balance FuelCell Prism have surprised me very pleasantly. Optimized for faster workouts and races, they are surprising for their flexible cushioning, reactivity and performance at fast paces.

New Balance FuelCell Prism, review

This is a running shoe aimed at runners with a neutral stride and/or who tend to pronate as the kilometers go by, as it offers stability and some support even on the fastest runs. A reactiveshoe, very comfortable, offering cushioning adapted to the needs of the runner.

These New Balance FuelCell Prism are an excellent option to complete races at very fast paces, up to the half marathon, with superb cushioning, stability, lightness and reactivity.

A proposal from New Balance that has important aesthetic similarities with other flying shoes from the Boston-based company such as the New Balance FuelCell TC, with carbon plate, or the New Balance FuelCell Propel v2. The truth is that these New Balance FuelCell Prism are an excellent option for completing races at very lively paces, up to the half marathon, with superb cushioning, stability, lightness and reactivity.

New Balance FuelCell Prism, plus reactivity in each stride.

New Balance FuelCell Prism review, plus reactivity

You put on these New Balance FuelCell Prism shoes and instantly feel a permanent sense of comfort underfoot. The midsole with FuelCell technology in combination with EVA foam ensures maximum comfort in each stride along with a plus of reactivity. A feeling that does not disappear as we accumulate kilometers and our heart rate monitor marks the fastest km.

This model is aimed at completing quality workouts, series and fartleks, and also long runs up to half marathon. I have tested them in short but very intense runs, under 4:30min/km, and I have completed with them runs between 8 and 12 km, in paces close to 4:40min/km, and they really offer that plus of reactivity for smoother transitions.

For those who, like me, tend to pronate as the miles go by, it's a shoe that offers significant stability and fit even when we're pushing the clock the hardest. A shoe that responds with character as our running pace crescendos.

Fit and comfort at fast paces

New Balance FuelCell Prism review, fit

This model shares the characteristic design line of the New Balance FuelCell saga. An aesthetic of marked competitive cut that keeps many similarities with the mixedshoes New Balance FuelCell TC; the model with carbon plate of the Boston company that competes, from one to one, with heavyweights like the Nike Air Zoom Tempo Next% or the Adidas Adizero Adios Pro.

A lightweight and very, very breathable upper. While it is true that, at first glance, we can perceive the various perforations strategically placed in the instep area, the feeling of breathability is one of the great protagonists in the shooting with FuelCell Prism.

For those runners who, like me, are used to narrower models, the first impression when putting on these New Balance shoes may be somewhat contradictory. A widermodel than what I'm used to, but that fits properly to the foot in lively paces. A construction that performs well on the run but may not be the most ideal option for runners with very narrow feet.

New Balance FuelCell Prism review, tongue

The flat laces and lacing construction ensure a personalized fit. Likewise, the tongue construction hugs the upper perfectly and the padded ankle collar area adds extra comfort with every stride. All in all, a very comfortableshoe that offers an optimal fit at fast paces.

Grip, a pending issue

One of its main handicaps is grip. This shoe for moving at fast p aces may not be the best option when the ground is a bit wet or slippery. While it is true that it is intended for use on asphalt, its performance on smooth, somewhat slippery and wet surfaces may be a pending issue for a future update.

New Balance FuelCell Prism review, outsole

But the truth is that after more than 120 kilometers with them, the outsole is intact, as far as the rubber construction is concerned.

New Balance FuelCell Prism Runner Profile

Aimed at completing workouts and runs at brisk paces, these New Balance FuelCell Prism have been specifically designed for runners with a neutral footprint and/or a slight tendency to pronation. Runners who, as they put more miles on their feet, tend to rotate the foot inward, these trainingshoes offer extra stability and support. Aimed at completing workouts and/or runs up to a half marathon, they have been optimized for runners of average weight.

A shoe that, despite its competitive nature, offers a better control of the stride cycle than other fast models on the market. The truth is that, as the pace of the race accelerates, the control over the stride decreases and therefore, getting a shoes that provides extra support and stability at fast paces can be a great success.

The truth is that if we want to get the most out of this shoe, we should run under 4:30min/km to see it in full action.

A shoe that grows when we push it harder, providing extra reactivity for smoother transitions. A shoe for fast runners looking to train at fast paces.

Final Conclusion on the New Balance FuelCell Prism

New Balance FuelCell Prism review, final conclusion

A running shoes aimed at neutral and fast runners, of average weight who want to complete training sessions and runs up to 21 km. The rhythms where you will be able to get the most out of this model of New Balance will be those that are located below 4:30, that's where you can enjoy a plus of reactivity and elasticity in each step.

A model of the successful FuelCell saga very interesting for fast weekly runs, even for days of series or fartleks. A versatile, lightweight and elastic model that allows you to achieve maximum performance in the hardest runs.
