Year 2023

It is often said that sequels are never good, but what about third parts? The American multinational has presented the new Nike ZoomX Invincible Run Flyknit 3 which has us with our eyes wide open to be able to unravel all of its novelties.

The Nike ZoomX Invincible Run Flyknit 3 is a running shoe that comes with many great new features, since the shoe changes completely, in terms of the design of the upper, the outsole and the shape of the midsole. What remains unchanged, and rightly so, is the ZoomX foam, which guarantees an extremely soft feel and exceptional rebound.

Main features of the Nike ZoomX Invincible Run Flyknit 3

The third version of one of Nike's most cushioned running shoes aims to respond to some criticism about the lack of stability of the previous model. The new Invincible Run Flyknit 3 features a structure that takes this aspect much more into account, so everything indicates that these shoes will once again conquer the most demanding runners.

One of the biggest differences compared to the Nike ZoomX Invincible Run Flyknit 2 is the distribution and shape of the midsole. The same ZoomX foam now has a smooth look, what seems to be more foam and, consequently, more height. The midsole is surrounded by a blue material to give the shoe more firmness so that the foot does not sink in with every step. The shoe also gains in reactivity compared to the previous version.

The Nike ZoomX Invincible Run Flyknit 3 arrives with a completely renewed upper, sporting a much thinner, more breathable and minimalist mesh. These modifications can be seen in the tongue and ankle collar, now much thinner and lighter. The designers have opted to include a pull tab in the heel area for an easier fit.

What we won't miss in the Nike ZoomX Invincible Run Flyknit 3 is its excellent cushioning. A true daily trainer with high profiles that aims to reduce the effect of impacts and protect our muscles and joints at every contact with the ground.

Nike finishes off its small revolution with a new outsole. Although it maintains the design with a multitude of small lugs, it now incorporates dozens of grooves in the forefoot and rearfoot area, where the ZoomX foam is visible. With the new outsole we will have a greater flexibility and durability of the model.

One of the weaker points in previous models of the shoe is stability, which in the new Nike Invincible Run Flyknit 3 is improved with the inclusion of reinforcements in the rear area, with a material that aims to avoid excessive lateral oscillation of the foot and thus offer a much safer and, consequently, more efficient and effective footprint.

Runner profile of the Nike ZoomX Invincible Run Flyknit 3

If you love shoes with a soft feel, the Invincible Run is the model for you. This is a shoe for daily training, especially for running at slower paces than 4:30-4:45 min/km. Its exquisite cushioning allows it to fit all types of runners, although medium-weight and heavy runners will be able to make the most out of it. We are talking about men over 75-80 kg and women over 65-70 kg.

We will be able to train over any distance with these trainers on, as long as our objective is not to run fast. Any training and competition ranging from 10k to marathon will be a good occasion to use these new shoes.

Technical specifications of the Nike ZoomX Invincible Run Flyknit 3

The weight of the new Nike ZoomX Invincible Run Flyknit 3 is a heavy weight, as these shoes exceed 300 grams, specifically weighing 310 grams, a heavy weight compared to other shoes of similar characteristics on the market, but it is difficult to reduce due to the materials in the midsole and the high profiles that hinder the shoes in this aspect.

The drop of the Nike ZoomX Invincible Run Flyknit 3 is modified with respect to the previous version: in these shoes the drop is 9 mm with high profiles, following the trend, specifically they measure 40 mm in the heel area and 31 mm in the forefoot.

In conclusion, the Nike Invincible 3 is one of Nike s clearest bets for this 2023, targeted to casual runners who don't think so much about competition, but who run to get in shape or clear their head. And it is undoubtedly one of the models on the market with the best running experience thanks to its soft, comfortable and reactive cushioning.

Nike Invincible 3: maximalist shoe, now more stable, without losing comfort

Nike did not want to be left behind in the current trend of maximalist shoes that prioritise comfort and softness in running. The Nike Invincible 3 is the American brand's bet to reach an audience that is perhaps not so focused on racing, but rather on running to get in shape, to clear their head, to disconnect from work or to lose weight. In fact, Nike was one of the first brands to go for this concept of midsole with a considerable height (these Invincible 3 have 40 mm of height in the heel area and 31 mm in the forefoot area). But much has changed in these 3 years, and in this case for the better. The two previous editions were missing some stability, especially for runners over 80 kg, but it seems that the designers and product engineers of this Invincible 3 listened to the feedback, and they have presented us with a shoe that is still very comfortable to run but is now much more stable.

What type of runner do we recommend the Nike Invincible 3 for?

The Nike Invincible 3 are shoes with maximum cushioning to run at easy paces for all types of distances and for runners of any weight. In fact, I would say that these are shoes that will appeal to heavier runners.

The curious thing about this model is that in its midsole we will find the company's most reactive foam, ZoomX. This compound is the one found, for example, in the Nike ZoomX Vaporfly 2, its competition model with a carbon plate.

Shoes with maximum cushioning for running at easy paces for all types of distances and for runners of any weight

So why do we say it's a shoe for easy paces?

The composition of the foam in these Invincible 3 has a higher density, which translates into a soft, but not "chewy" feel when running. If we add to this an upper that incorporates more body, with a material that structures the shoe so that the foot stays in place and a more reinforced heel area, we find a model that gains in support and stability, counteracting the softness and height of its midsole.

What did we like most about the Nike Invincible 3?

There are many improvements in this new edition compared to the Nike Invincible 2, while other aspects remain unchanged because they already worked very well in the previous version.

Now it is a more stable shoe. The main change comes in the form of a wavy cable structure that we can find on both sides of the foot, just beside the lacing. We can see it if we hold the shoe up to the light. As if they were the cables of a bridge, they provide a better fit, stability and safety in the race by hugging the foot and avoiding unwanted movements.

The softness of its footstrike is still spectacular. It is a shoe that, despite being more structured, does not lose comfort. Its running feel is not as soft as it may seem when squeezing its foam. I would even say that in the race it has a certain firmness, but it is something that is appreciated. An added advantage is that if you want to push your pace, the shoe will respond even if its function is not to run fast. Remember that you are wearing ZoomX foam.

Durability: Undoubtedly one of the plus points of this shoe. An outsole made of a rubber material that provides good grip but above all covers virtually all areas of contact with the ground, which will provide many kilometres of use to the trainer.

You will also be able to use the Nike Invincible 3 not only on asphalt but also on tracks or dirt or gravel trails, making it a very versatile shoe.

Possible points for improvement

It is a shoe that can be perceived as clunky. Its weight is not disproportionate, in fact it is around 300 grams in a size 9.5 US (8 UK) but seeing as Nike is one of the brands that takes the most care in the design of its models, perhaps we expected a riskier design.

The insole is very thin. Perhaps with a softer insole, the initial feeling of comfort when putting on the shoe would improve.

Conclusion

We see a very important advance in the model, with the clear intention of being able to reach a wide range of runners who are looking for other incentives in running that don't have to do with competition. It is now much more stable, safer and above all it fits a wider weight range.
