1 / 2The Nike ZoomX Zegama trail running shoe is the name with which the American brand intends to pay tribute to the iconic mountain marathon that runs through some of the most emblematic summits of the Aizkorri sierra (Basque Country).
Lovers of trail running shoes are in luck because we have before us a model of shoe more focused on running on terrain and trails not overly technical rewarding comfort and excellent cushioning Nike thanks to ZoomX foam also present in the models of asphalt.

Nike ZoomX Zegama, main features
The Nike ZoomX Zegama, which have already been tested by the professional athletes of the Nike Running trail team in Chamonix (France), are now a reality and are on the market for the happiness of trail running lovers. Surely one of the most relevant aspects of these Nike ZoomX Zegama is in its midsole, since the inclusion of ZoomX technology will allow running with a shoe model with great cushioning, softness and energy return, characteristic of the most successful models of the brand for asphalt used, among others, by the world record holder and Olympic marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge.
The Oregon-based company advocates the inclusion of a lightweight and breathable upper to wick away sweat and heat during training and competitions. In addition, it has a kind of sock that protects the ankle in order to prevent the entry of stones and provide greater stability and security to the joint.
As for the sole, possibly based on the most technical areas of the Zegama-Aizkorri, it can be said that it has a multidirectional tread pattern that is ideal for good grip on trails, rocky areas, and not so much on wet terrain. In other words, it is more a shoe for running fast and with very good sensations in races of any distance, but mainly ultras where speed and comfort in terrain without too many technical difficulties are the priority.
Nike ZoomX Zegama, designed to run fast and with excellent sensations.
Following the style of shoes that the brand has previously marketed, such as the Wildhorse 7 or the Air Zoom Terra Kiger 8, this is a shoe with high profiles and a 4mmdrop (37mm in the heel and 33mm in the toe). The ZoomX Zegama go on sale for an RRP of 159.99€ and with the label of being a different model to what Nike had presented so far. Its strengths are its great comfort, good grip on not overly technical terrain, as well as a soft and reactive cushioning to complete distances of great entity. Climbing, descending and flat landing at all paces will not be a problem when you wear these Nike ZoomX Zegama.

TesterNike ZoomX Zegama: Dynamism and comfort to enjoy long hours of trail running on terrain without excessive difficulty
We were really looking forward to these Nike ZoomX Zegama for several reasons. First, because we are big fans of the spectacular mountain marathon of Aizkorri Sierra that gives its name to this trail running shoe: Zegama. Secondly, for knowing how Nike was going to position this model within its range of trail running shoes. Thirdly , because its spectacular design is a disruption in a market, that of trail running shoes that historically has not focused too much on aesthetics and Nike wants to take advantage of the valor of its designers in this aspect.
In conclusion, we are faced with a model that has not gone unnoticed among fans not only of the brand but also of the race. But several questions arise: will these shoes be suitable for muddy, wet, technical terrain, such as the traditional Zegama - Aizkorri route? Let's take a look...
What type of runner are the Nike ZoomX Zegama recommended for?
We recommend the Nike ZoomX Zegama for runners who are looking for a shoe with a maximalist midsole and who prioritize comfort during the race. For terrains that do not present too many technical difficulties, such as tracks or trails where you can run for hours with an excellent feeling of comfort in each stride. We will be able to use them in ultras or long distances where the terrain does not present muddy areas or technical difficulty profiles. They are also an excellent option for training runs and training sessions where we seek to enjoy good sensations in the race and forget about the watch.
For light to medium weight trail runners (up to 80kg) who want to feel the sensations of running with the most reactive and lightweight foam of the American brand on asphalt (ZoomX) but taken to the trail. Dynamism (with a 4 mm drop, 37 mm in the heel area and 33 mm in the forefoot) and comfort to face all kinds of distances at easy paces or faster paces on firm terrain, versatile but mainly compact, and that do not propose great complications.
What did we like most about the Nike ZoomX Zegama?
Undoubtedly the running sensations. Forget the hard and often spartan feel of traditional trail shoes. It's like wearing a cushioning shoes for asphalt, but for dirt, loose rock, trails. From the moment you put on these Nike ZoomX Zegama you realize the importance that the brand gives to the search for good feelings in the race.
We love the fit that avoids unwanted foot movements. The durability of the outsole is another remarkable aspect and of course its proposal for a spectacular design that makes it a model that you will want to wear with your most sporty outfits or even for those walks in the mountains on days you do not feel like running.
Possible points for improvement
The collar of the mouth of the shoe, if you have a very narrow ankle, it is likely that it does not fit perfectly and allows the entry of small stones that jump on the road.
We are sure that this is not a shoe for technical, soft or wet terrain, and the name of the shoe can make the user buy this model relating the Zegama route with the characteristics of the shoe. To give you an example, it is as if we were to name a gravel bike "Tour de France".
Conclusions
Nike s bet is brave and we like it. Shoes that take advantage of the technologies developed for asphalt models, but taken to the trail. The search for good sensations together with a very attractive design make the proposal of the American brand have a promising future.

With which models can we compare the Nike ZoomX Zegama?
We are talking about a shoe concept that has few competitors in the market. There are probably only a couple of brands that can be positioned in this same shoe segment: New Balance and Hoka.
