The On Cloudrunner are running shoes different from everything we have tried from the Swiss brand. With a neat aesthetic and a combination of colors that allow you to use them as sneakers for your most urban outfits, these On are shoes for those runners who are looking for a first approach to the brand. With a wide base, a firm feel, good foot support during running and comfort as one of the most perceptible sensations.

I would dare to consider the On Cloudrunner as the shoe that perhaps least resembles the ON Running concept we know. The brand describes them as a support, control and safety running shoe, but it is not something that is perceived at first sight. The sensation is that of a neutral shoe, comfortable when you put them on, with a feeling of firmness in the race, of safety due to the width of the last and the comfort of the upper, which you can use for your outings at easy paces.

It is also an option as a shoe to go to the gym or as a walking shoe.

What type of runners are these On Cloudrunner aimed at?

If On has always been characterized by that softness, and those foams with a very pleasant feel in running, with very fluid transitions due to the combination of materials and that rocker design, in this Cloudrunner we see a transition between a more conventional shoe with a firm feel in running and the On concept. An entry-level formula for those who want to try a shoe that has carved out a niche in the market, offering a different way to accompany you to the finish line.

The brand positions the model as a support shoe, but you won't feel it, or at least we didn't feel it as such. It is a very secure model that protects the foot very well in the race, but more for having a wider base than in other shoes of the brand, for also having materials in the midsole that transfer a firm touch in the race and for the presence of the Speedboard (a plastic plate above its famous holes in the midsole), which provides greater stability and a certain fluidity in the transitions.

The On Cloudrunner is aimed at runners of almost any weight who are looking for shoes for those 10-12 kilometer runs where comfort, safety and foot protection are the main concerns. We forget a little of those soft, fluid, reactive sensations that we can find in other models of the brand and oriented to longer runs. It is also important to note that it is one of the most economical models of the company, if not the first price, which orients them to that market of beginner runners or run 2 or 3 days a week without greater pretension to keep fit or clear the head and combine running and gym for example.

What did I like most about these On Cloudrunner?

Let's start with the aesthetics. It is an elegant, differential, eye-catching shoe. With a combination of colors with great taste. Betting on neutral base tones, such as greens and grays, blues, oranges and grays that are perfect as a casual shoe in autumn or winter (we'll see if they update the range of colors for summer).

Secondly, the feeling of comfort when you wear them. Its stiff upper also feels comfortable and wide in the forefoot area. They are not materials that stand out for their lightness or breathability, they remind us much more of those that you can find in a sneaker, prioritizing the search for those good sensations when you put them on.

Thirdly, I would highlight its durability. This is a hard shoe, to withstand the day to day if you are going to use it as a model to go to work and also run with them 2 or 3 days a week. Its sole is also very protected to withstand the abrasion of the asphalt.

Possible points for improvement

Being an approach shoe from the brand, one perhaps expects to feel that softness in its cushioning and those unique sensations that we have been able to test in other models from the company. Here we miss that feeling. But even so, it is a shoe with On character and you will immediately notice when running with it that it is unlike anything you have tried before.

Maybe some more breathability in the upper area. Although it seems like a shoe designed for running in cold weather, or in the autumn season where perhaps extra ventilation is not as necessary as in warmer times of the year.
