Year 2023

Saucony starts 2023 with the presentation of new versions of its asphalt models, today we present the new Saucony Kinvara 14, an ideal shoe for fast runners.

The Saucony Kinvara 14 are running shoes that are presented with a lightweight design and interesting new features compared to the previous version that we explain below.

Saucony Kinvara 14, main features

The upper of the Saucony Kinvara 14, a running shoe from Saucony features a consistent fit with a single-layer mesh that promotes and improves breathability, as well as being one of the factors why the new version is lighter than the previous one. The aerodynamic upper is designed to reduce the weight of the shoe without relying on the chassis.

The midsole of the Saucony Kinvara 14 is made of PWRRUN foam, just like the Saucony Kinvara 13, so we are guaranteed good cushioning in our daily workouts with the shoe. The PWRRUN foam cushioning along with the PWRRUN+ sockliner gives you an ultra-lightweight boost for race day.

Also noteworthy is the new midsole geometry of the Saucony Kinvara 14, which features a subtle rocker shape and an aerodynamic midsole for a super smooth and fast stride. Articulated sidewalls, higher in this version, wrap the foot for high-speed running with good protection and stability.

The XT 900 compound, developed by Saucony, is present in the outsole of the Saucony Kinvara 14, with the same design as the previous version, so the rubber reinforcement is minimal and where the main protagonist of the outsole is the EVA foam that, in contact with the ground makes this shoe very light, yes, we will penalize in the aspect of durability that will be less than that of other shoes of the American brand.

What type of runner are the Saucony Kinvara 14 recommended for?

The Saucony Kinvara 14 are ideal shoes for those runners of light weight and neutral footstep who prioritize speed over cushioning, those runners with better running technique will be able to use them in their daily training and also in short and medium distance competitions, as long as the durability of the sole does not penalize their performance.

Saucony Kinvara 14, technical specifications

In terms of technical specifications, the Saucony Kinvara 14 retains the same drop as the previous version, the 4mm, but the profiles are increased by 3mm, so we have a shoe with 31mm in the heel part of the shoe and 27mm in the front part.

Another great new feature of the Saucony Kinvara 14 is that it is even lighter in weight, the shoe weighs 200 grams in the men's version and 175 grams in the women's version, making it one of the lightest running shoes from the American brand.

In conclusion, these Saucony Kinvara 14 are the Saucony running shoes for fast runners who need a very light shoe, with good cushioning and looking to squeeze in each of their workouts and competitions with a simple shoe but with everything you need to go further and faster.

Review of Saucony Kinvara 14

31 October 2024

Saucony Kinvara 14 do not have a plate, but do not disappoint in their responsiveness and lightness

Here I go with the review of the Saucony Kinvara 14, which, to tell the truth, have given me very positive feelings. We are talking about a light and fast shoe with a minimalist design, but not discreet with respect to the range of colors offered. So the first detail to keep in mind is that it can be the perfect ally for triathlon lovers who run fast, and reliably.

The first impression I got when I saw this running shoe is simplicity. Just look at its simple and subtle design. Also, this design reveals the arched rocker toe area, which gives the first clue that this will be a fast-paced running shoe.

Saucony Kinvara 14 Runner Profile

Its hardness is quite considerable compared to other models, so I consider it a shoe for light weight runners, and to move with a lot of dynamism and agility on the asphalt.

Any runner with a good running technique will be able to get very good performance from these Saucony Kinvara 14 , although they are also perfect to have the opportunity to improve that same running technique.

Reactive for short and medium distances, such as a 10k or a half marathon. You won't be disappointed in terms of response.

What we liked most about the Saucony Kinvara 14

It is true that in order to get that reactivity that it offers without having a carbon plate, we can notice that the hardness of the sole is harder than usual, which does not affect comfort, but it does affect grip, since it does not have a final grip on the outsole.

As far as ventilation is concerned, it takes all the points to become one of the most ventilated shoes on the market. It has a completely breathable and very light upper that makes it a good choice for those hot days when we want to shave a few seconds off the clock. Perfect for triathletes.

This, together with the rocker design, are the perfect ingredients to make this recipe to please runners used to train or compete at high paces.

A plus point for the Saucony staff who have managed to reduce the weight compared to the previous model. That is, if the Saucony Kinvara 13 had a weight of 201 grams in size 42EU for men, these renewed Saucony Kinvara 14 have an even lighter weight of 191 grams in the same size. 10 grams less weight that is noticeable when running at fast paces with this model on your feet.

Opportunities for improvement in the Saucony Kinavara 14

The first improvement opportunity to point out is that these Kinvara 14 need to improve their grip, which can come from that bare EVA foam outsole. It simply has two rubber reinforcements on the outsole, under the big toe area and on the supinated back of the heel. This can give us a scare or two when entering wet areas or wet asphalt, as we will not have a complete grip of the foot.

On the other hand, it should be noted that the heel area has a reinforcement that dies halfway up the fabric. If we are runners with a tendency to heel, this detail can generate some irritation in the heel area. The fabric tends to bend when we exert all our weight on that area of impact.

What are the direct rivals of the Saucony Kinvara 14?

Final conclusion about the Saucony Kinvara 14

In short, if what you are looking for is a running shoe with which to run at high paces, lightweight, breathable and at the same time with good reactivity, without the need to resort to the use of the carbon plate, these Saucony Kinvara 14 is a strong candidate to occupy a preferential place in your closet. Especially if your profile is that of a triathlete used to running fast, fast.
