Year 2023

Saucony was not going to be less and also wanted to show the world the news that has prepared for 2023 in the macro event par excellence of running held in Austin, Texas. In "The Running Event", the company has presented some of the most striking silhouettes among which stand out, for example, the Saucony Triumph RFG.

The Saucony Triumph RFG is a running shoe designed through the brand's most sustainable production process. It is a model that stands out for maintaining the characteristics of the more traditional Triumphs while improving the production ecosystem, with a high percentage of recycled and sustainable materials.

What are the expectations of the new Saucony Triumph RFG?

The Triumph RFG are Saucony running shoes that, as their own acronym "Run For Good" indicates, maintain a philosophy that respects the environment. It is a model that maintains the essence of the Saucony Triumph 20 but adds an added valor such as sustainable production.

It is a model that arrives with a little more weight, 295 grams in total, about 25 grams more than the traditional edition of the line, but maintains that drop of 10 millimeters that makes it a soft and a durable training shoe. Main features that are reinforced thanks to its respect for nature in its production chain.

Not for nothing is it a model of recycled material in which up to 55% of its midsole is made from corn, thanks to PWRRUN Bio + technology. But that's not all, as 80% of the outsole is made of natural rubber and the upper dyes are made from plant pigments.

Saucony Triumph RFG Runner Profile

These Saucony Triumph RFG are shoes that, as the most traditional edition of the Triumph line, are oriented to runners of medium-high weights who are looking for a perfect model with which to accumulate as many kilometers as possible without losing any comfort or cushioning.

An asphalt model for men and women that will maintain the philosophy and main features of a Saucony top seller and that will add a sustainable component to its manufacturing chain. A model that we are sure will not leave anyone indifferent when it appears on the market around May 2023 for a price of 160 €.

Review of the Saucony Triumph RFG: Sustainability and performance in every stride

Saucony takes a step forward with the Triumph RFG (Run For Good) in its commitment to sustainability. This trainer not only seeks to offer maximum cushioning, but also incorporates a sustainable approach that distinguishes it on the market. With 40% recycled materials in its composition, the Triumph RFG is a clear example of the brand's commitment to reducing its carbon footprint without sacrificing the quality and comfort that recreational runners expect.

This model is the evolution of the well-known Saucony Triumph 21, but with significant improvements in both design and functionality. It incorporates PWRRUN+ technology for superior cushioning and a heel design that offers additional support, making it one of the most complete and versatile running shoes on the market today.

If you're a runner who values both performance and sustainability, the Saucony Triumph RFG could be your next ideal pair of trainers. In this review, we'll break down all the features that make this model an exceptional choice.

What type of runner we recommend them for

The Saucony Triumph RFG is an exceptional choice for a wide range of runners, from novice to experienced. Its versatile design and state-of-the-art technology make it suitable for a variety of conditions and terrain types, from asphalt to moderate trails.

Long-distance runners

Thanks to the excellent PWRRUN+ cushioning system, this model is ideal for long-distance runners looking for comfort and support during training and competition. The high-quality foam ensures that your feet stay comfortable mile after mile.

Moderate pace runners

If you're a runner looking to improve your times without sacrificing comfort, the Triumph RFG is for you. Its aerodynamic design and efficient stride transition make it suitable for higher paces.

Environmentally conscious runners

Given their focus on sustainability, these running shoes are an excellent choice for environmentally conscious runners. With 40% recycled materials, you can run knowing you're making a greener choice.

Runners looking for durability

The quality materials and sturdy construction ensure that these trainers will last you a long time, making them a smart investment for runners looking for durability as well as performance.

Runners with a wide foot and looking for support

The heel design and wide toe box offer additional support and room, making it a suitable model for runners with wider feet or those who require additional arch support.

Running sensations with the Saucony Triumph RFG: A journey of comfort and efficiency

From the moment you put on the Saucony Triumph RFG, you'll notice a sense of comfort and fit that translates into a running experience that I personally loved:

Luxurious cushioning

PWRRUN+ technology in the midsole provides cushioning that is both soft and resilient. This translates into a "floating" feel on the road, minimising impact on the joints and allowing for faster recovery between workouts.

Smooth transitions

The forefoot and heel design work together to provide an exceptionally smooth foot strike transition. This is especially noticeable on longer runs, where efficiency in each stride becomes crucial.

Foot support

The heel structure and lacing system contribute to a secure fit, providing a stable feel even on rougher terrain. This gives you the confidence to run faster and stronger, knowing that your feet are well supported.

Lightweight and responsive

Despite its robust cushioning, the Triumph RFG is surprisingly lightweight. This translates into a nimble and responsive feel, allowing you to change pace with ease.

Eco-consciousness

Running in a pair of running shoes made from 40% recycled materials gives you a sense of positive contribution to the environment, adding an extra level of satisfaction to your training.

Excellent fit

The mesh upper conforms to the shape of your foot like a glove, offering a personalised fit that improves with every mile. This is especially beneficial on longer runs, where an improper fit can lead to discomfort or even injury.

Market rivals

In the competitive world of high-end running shoes, the Saucony Triumph RFG faces several rivals that also offer luxury features and top-tier performance. Below, we break down some of the top competitors:

  • Nike Air Zoom Vomero 16: With ZoomX cushioning and a Flyknit upper, the Nike Air Zoom Vomero are known for their comfort and responsiveness. However, they tend to be a bit heavier than the Triumph RFG, which could be a deal breaker for runners looking to minimise weight.
  • Adidas Ultraboost 23: These trainers are famous for their Boost technology in the midsole, which provides excellent cushioning and energy return. While they are versatile and comfortable, their price may be a hindrance for some runners.
  • Brooks Glycerin 20 GTS: With their focus on stability and support, the Brooks Glycerin GTS are a solid option for runners who need a little more control in their stride.
  • Asics Gel-Nimbus 25: Known for maximum cushioning and comfort, these trainers are a popular choice among mid- to heavyweight long-distance runners. While they offer excellent cushioning, they may not be as lightweight or dynamic as the Saucony Triumph RFG.
  • Hoka Bondi 8: These running shoes are known for their exceptional cushioning and maximalist design. While they are great for runners looking for maximum comfort, their bulky design may not be to everyone's taste.
  • New Balance Fresh FoamX 1080 v13: With its Fresh FoamX technology, this model offers a good combination of cushioning and support. However, its more traditional design may not appeal to runners looking for something more modern and streamlined.

Conclusion

The Saucony Triumph RFG is more than just an update to an already excellent model; it's Saucony's commitment to sustainability and performance. If you are looking for a versatile, comfortable and environmentally responsible shoes, this model is an excellent choice. But beware that it also has excellent cushioning, it is a dynamic trainer with a very attractive design. Run with a conscience, but run.

Pros

  • All the good qualities of the Saucony Triumph 21
  • A model designed to respect the environment
  • Running comfort and cushioning

Cons

  • Going for sustainability is still very expensive: €190
