The Scott Kinabalu Power is a trailrunning shoe thatprovides first and foremost protection. It has been designed for runners with a strong constitution, who are not going to do long distance races and at a leisurely pace. Its robust structure despite providing protection to the runner may be stiff at first but prevent water from entering and thanks to the balance formed by its structure the dynamics of our workouts will be easier.
Scott Kinabalu Power, robustness and protection
We are now going to talk about the performance of this new model, which as soon as we see it we recognize its medium-high profile and a certain robustness that provides ample and stable cushioning. The midsole material is Aerofoam +, a soft component very similar to EVA. As we said, its high profile causes a rocking gait that many users will appreciate thanks also to the e-rider system to help increase the momentum of the leather. You will also notice a feeling of robustness which also means less agility and flexibility in the feet, especially the first few times. Therefore, we can say that it is not a shoe that is particularly agile in the race but with which your foot will be protected.
As for the upper of the Scott Kinabalu Power, it highlights what we already advanced the robustness of the model, it has been designed with a thick fabric that surrounds the entire upper, so the fabric does not favor breathability but it does prevent water from entering. It can be somewhat directed even if it does not get the precise fit to create some injury to the foot. In addition, a plastic material has been added on the sides in order to increase the protection of the shoe and which in turn also contributes to the rigidity of which we spoke. Another drawback of this structure is that it does not allow good ventilation despite incorporating small perforations in the tongue to facilitate ventilation although it is certain that on hot days can be uncomfortable if we walk for a long time and the sweat stays there. As for the fit, Scott has opted for flat laces that do not unbuckle easily thanks to the lace anchors in the tongue area, so there will be no problems.
The outsole, as usual in trail running shoes, is composed of triangular-shaped lugs that are evenly distributed throughout the sole, except for the lateral ones that are smaller in height than the rest. In fact, the rest are quite large in size. The function of this is to increase the grip on large stones and smooth surfaces but the truth is that the grip on other types of terrain such as grass or dirt roads as in those the rubber may not be as effective.
In terms of technical specifications, the weight is 350 gr and the drop is around 8 mm.
