Review of Scott Pursuit Ride

Scott Pursuit Ride, a model that makes you able to improve, almost unconsciously, your footprint.

After several weeks testing one of the models that most caught my attention from Scott, I can finally give my opinion on a road shoes that has fit me perfectly. Although I'm a mountain runner to whom off-mountain runs are a "ball", I know that they are necessary to continue advancing and improving, and there's no better way than to do it accompanied by a model that meets your needs. What are mine? I'll explain it below so that it can help you too.

What type of runner are the Scott Pursuit Ride recommended for?

The Scott Pursuit Ride are running shoes created for "guys" like me. We are talking about a high quality training model oriented to smooth and quiet sessions, but that also have enough versatility to squeeze some speed in specific moments.

It is a model that stands out for providing maximum comfort but above all, and what surprised me the most, it helps you to improve your stride. While other maximum cushioning models sin of providing excessive thickness to their midsoles, with the result of, at least in my case, excessive heel strike, these Scott Pursuit Ride have a perfect structure in their base that facilitates the entry with the midfoot, making your run more efficient.

A perfect feature for those runners who, like me, either need to improve their running technique on asphalt, or are looking for a cushioned model to reduce impacts on their joints or want a cushioned and dynamic model in equal parts.

What did we like most about the Scott Pursuit Ride?

As I was saying, one of the aspects that impressed me the most is the ability of this model to help you improve your stride. They have a molded midsole with a bit more elevation in the midfoot that helps you get a better feeling of contact with the asphalt in that area. Something that unconsciously allows you to be more efficient and dynamic in the race.

All this, moreover, without providing that "slow" shoe feeling that other models or brands may have in their more maximalist training shoes. In this case, the Scott Pursuit Ride I think has the perfect balance between stability, comfort and dynamism.

Other details that I liked about this new running model from Scott are, for example, the ankle collar and its upper in general. The ankle area, without being too high, is one of the most comfortable I have been able to test. It is very cushioned and flexible, perfect for the quiet asphalt days of long runs. The upper, on the other hand, is very adaptable .

Many times I'm afraid of finding a road shoe with very light fabrics but more uncomfortable or that generate bags to the flex (due in part to my narrow pe), so I was surprised that, without being a fast shoe, like the Speed carbon RC, it maintains a fairly good lightness without neglecting the sensitivity of its upper.

Opportunities for improvement of the Scott Pursuit Ride

As for the details that I liked the least, I could talk about its lacing, its tongue or its outsole. The lacing is a very traditional lacing, but I find it too coarse, especially the laces, for a shoe in which the upper mesh is more than successful and does not need such an "aggressive" lacing to provide stability and support.

The tongue is very close to this, and I'm not just saying this because of the position it occupies in the shoe, but also because it leaves something to be desired for the same reasons. I find it too thick for what is needed, in my opinion. It is obvious that we are talking about a trainingshoe that is for easy paces and that seeks to maximize comfort, but that combination that seems perfect to me in the ankle/heel area, is excessive in the instep area.

Finally, I would highlight the outsole, not because it doesn't convince me, which it does, but because I think it has a great opportunity for improvement, as simple and basic as increasing the surface of more resistant rubber. I hope I'm wrong, but I have the feeling that the absence of this material, which on the other hand is very adherent and provides good stability in the midfoot area, is going to make them a less durable model than they could have been.

What are the main competitors of the Scott Pursuit Ride?

Based on what I like most and least about these Scott Pursuit Ride and making a comparison with other models that I have had the pleasure of testing or that I know from pure experience within the running world, I think these shoes would be faithful competitors:

Final conclusions about the Scott Pursuit Ride

In short, and as a final summary, I can confirm that this is a high quality model, which provides a perfect combination of comfort, cushioning and dynamism. A very versatile model capable of responding perfectly both in quieter rides and in more intense sessions.

In particular, one of the aspects that has surprised me the most is the ability to improve, almost unconsciously, your stride. It's something I've liked the most, since little by little I'm noticing a substantial improvement in my road running technique. To the point of leaving for specific occasions models such as the New Balance Fresh Foam 1080 or the Salomon Glide Max that I have used so much (which I have not included among their competitors because I consider them "softer" than these Pursuit Ride).
