Adidas Climacool 02/17

In 2002 Adidas introduced the ClimaCool system in its shoes; the upper featured a mesh style with an ultra-lightweight support system. Among the design benefits of this system was that maximum airflow would aid runner performance (less sweat, more traction).

Like all running shoes, even well-designed ones, the ClimaCool was eventually phased out to make way for lighter and cooler models in the three-stripe universe and now, like all specially designed running shoes, the ClimaCool is back on the scene in a design that provides a burst of nostalgia in relation to the original design.

This special 20 year old model called the Adidas ClimaCool 02/17 features features like the original models, the upper has been crafted in ClimaCool mesh to provide a comfortable and breathable fit.

Features

The Adidas Climacool 02/17 come in white, black and red colorways, feature a mesh upper and a translucent grey panel on the outside of the shoe reminiscent of the midfoot support system of the OG model. But the similarities between the two shoes don't go much further than that.

Thanks to their one-piece upper design with no tongue and angled toe box, the ClimaCool 02/17 have much more in common with other popular Adidas shoes, such as the UltraBoost, NMD or Pharrell's Tennis HU. The ClimaCool 02/17 is designed as a street shoe and not like its predecessor which era a performance shoe.

The three stripes company has been giving more relevant features to its retro models. The ClimaCool 02/17 doesn't feature a huge array of technologies, but refines the upper by making it incredibly breathable with a slip-on fit. They have a striking semi-translucent half-open sole that adds an aggressive aesthetic.

ClimaCool technology provides 360-degree cooling for the entire foot, the upper construction of the shoe is made of breathable mesh and also has a mesh lining; the midsole uses EVA rubber with TPU stability plugs and a rubber outsole. The 02/17 shoes bring the original ClimaCool concept into modern territory with a progressive design.
