The Adidas Superstar was first seen on a basketball court in 1970. Its instant success made it a true street style icon in a very short time. A legendary shoe that today has become a superstar when it comes to trends and fashion. And that has passed through the feet of many celebrities and influencers icons of today's fashion. It has been a benchmark shoe in the music, sneakerhead and streetwear scene.
In 1969, Adidas founder Adi Dassler repeated history again, this time with basketball as the protagonist. He saw the need to create a specific shoe for basketball practice, with quality leather, a smooth rubber that would provide a good grip on the court and, this time, a rubber toe cap with a protective function known as Shell Toe. Without leaving aside the classic Adidas three stripes. And so it was that this new aesthetic not only triumphed in basketball, but also reigned in hip hop culture during the seventies and eighties.
At first, it was NBA and NCAA players who were impressed with the new model, among them NBA star Kareem Abdul Jabbar, who was fascinated by the Shell Toe. From then on, most NBA players started to wear this model. Later they were seen in street style and some urban cultures such as Hip Hop. It seems difficult to assimilate that a European shoe had so much relevance in the USA, but that's how it was. And many young Americans started to wear the Adidas Superstar in their urban looks influenced by TV stars and music groups like RUN DMC who started to wear these shoes without laces, and became the most used shoes by American rappers.

These classically styled adidas sneakers feature a canvas upper, the classic rubber toe cap, along with the German brand's iconic three stripes made of synthetic leather. A highly breathable mesh lining and a reinforcement in the heel area, make the Adidas Superstar a shoe to wear the latest fashion without sacrificing comfort. On the other hand, the sole has been made of rubber and stitched with the popular German brand's herringbone pattern.
Among the most daring models of the Superstar edition, there is a pair with prints inspired by the flowers and fruits that animate the streets of Rio de Janeiro, designed in collaboration with the Brazilian fashion company The Farm Company. On the other hand, the American singer and producer Pharrel Williams designed more than 50 colors in this model, and they were a success, this collection was called Adidas Superstar Supercolor Pack. That led Adidas to sell more than 15 million pairs in 2015.
The Adidas Superstar have been part of prestigious collaborations, with NBA players like Abdul Jabbar, with the teams of this same league or with the group RUN DMC have been the most famous collaborations of this model. Although we can not forget that it has been one of the most selected shoes of the brand by the stores that have collaborated with Adidas to edit exclusively. But if we have to bet on one of the colors of these sneakers are the white Adidas Superstar, with the three stripes of adidas and details in black, is perhaps the best-selling in the history of this model.
With the passage of time, it seems that this model has been left in the closet, but Adidas has managed the situation well and has continued to collaborate with global superstars to not drop this model among so many new sneakers. That's why it has counted on singer Rita Ora, ex-footballer David Beckham and NBA star Damian Lillard to continue promoting this Adidas classic that will never go out of style. And that in recent times has been hit hard by counterfeits.
