The Nike Waffle Racer sneaker first appeared in the 1970s and owes its name to the pattern chosen for the shoe's cleats. This design era so innovative for the time that the first prototypes of the shoe were made using melted rubber which was poured directly into a waffle iron to create the soles.
Today, almost 40 years later and with the advancement of technology, this edition of sneakers is back, with some fresh and contemporary updates in silhouette, but keeping the same concept of the original version. The Nike Waffle Racer 17 is also revamped from last year's version to give a lower profile and lighter design, without sacrificing the traction that characterizes this edition.
The upper is made of nylon, which makes the shoe lighter while maintaining ventilation to the interior; some suede reinforcements have been placed in the toe and heel of the shoe to add durability. The use of stitching is kept to a minimum, thus reducing the likelihood of irritation points and making the shoes comfortable to wear all day long.
The midsole is made of dual density foam which provides a good level of cushioning and offers a comfortable surface for the foot. The insole also makes use of this rubber, which due to its high memory, adapts properly to the foot to maintain comfort at all times.
The rubber also offers a good level of flexibility to the shoe and promotes the natural movement of the foot for a more fluid and comfortable step, without sacrificing the protection needed on the sole of the foot.
The outsole is one of the most characteristic areas of the Nike Waffle Racer 17, it is made of highly abrasion resistant rubber and its waffle-shaped tread pattern has a medium prominence to adapt to a variety of surfaces.
One of Nike 's most famous models for the track a few decades ago returns with a lighter silhouette but with the qualities that made it stand out to adapt perfectly to fast runs on numerous terrains.
