1 / 5In the RUNNEA team we agree that the arrival of the renewed ASICS Gel Nimbus 25 is one of the launches of the year in the world of running shoes. This model, top-of-the-range in cushioning for long distances on asphalt, stands out for its maximum protection and comfort. We have already pointed out that the change is radical to make this 25th edition of the Nimbus the most comfortable to date.
These are the new Nimbus 25 for men and women
First of all, we must say that these ASICS Gel Nimbus 25 running shoes include important improvements, which keep this model as one of the great flagships, but also elevate all its features to premium category. Instead of saying goodbye to the more standard GEL system, the product developers have opted for a notable evolution with the inclusion of PureGEL. We find this new EVA foam in the heel area, and it will work together with the Flyte Foam Blast ECO + foam in the forefoot area. All of these elements offer us a lighter, softer and more responsive cushioning capacity, with the added bonus of reducing the trainers' environmental impact.
So, these are some of the details you should keep in mind about these new Gel Nimbus from ASICS:
- Weight: 289 g for a size 9 US (8 UK) men's and 227 g for a size 7.5 US (5.5 UK) women's
- Drop: 8 mm, 41.5 mm in the heel and 33.5 mm in the forefoot
- Full-length Flytefoam Blast ECO+ midsole (20% recycled) + PureGEL in the heel area
Key features and innovations of the ASICS Gel Nimbus 25
All the changes expected from these ASICS Gel Nimbus 25 only fuel the high expectations that a shoe of this scale brings with it.
The comprehensive renovation of this model designed for daily workouts confirms that its 25th anniversary brings a revolution, and its new design comes to improve the running experience of the runner. In this sense, the winning bet is none other than high performance and more groundbreaking aesthetics, which will mark a turning point in the trajectory of this legendary running shoe with maximum cushioning.
The current market trend is also reflected on the Nimbus 25: top-of-the-range in cushioning but with the look of a racing shoe, which seems to be inspired by the ASICS Metaspeed Sky super shoes. The FlyteFoam Blast ECO+ midsole construction and the new Pure GEL system provide a higher level of comfort while running, but also more reactive than the ASICS Gel Nimbus 24. In fact, the midsole is more voluminous—more material in the heel area to ensure support, stability and comfort. It also has a more aerodynamic shape to run with greater sensations of reactivity.
Let's say that these ASICS Gel Nimbus 25 apply their most maximalist concept to date, but without sacrificing fluid and dynamic transitions. A great running shoe that never fails with its efficient cushioning, and now softer, lighter and more responsive than in previous versions.
There are more notable changes. Just like the midsole, its upper presents a total redesign: a more ergonomic design that allows the shoe to adapt better to the foot, and not the other way around. A detail that also translates into a better fit and support for more secure running. All of this is due to the upper with engineered mesh, but it should also be noted that up to 75% of the main material of the upper of the model is made from recycled materials. A technological resource that serves to reduce waste and carbon emissions.
In addition, another interesting new feature of these ASICS Gel Nimbus 25 is that they include an elastic strap. Now, putting on the Gel Nimbus 25 is easier and faster than any other version. This detail also serves to improve support at this strategic point of the shoe.
On the outsole, the ASICS Gel Nimbus 25 uses the characteristic AHAR rubber compound to improve the grip and durability of the model.
Ideal runner profile of the ASICS Gel Nimbus 25
Despite all the changes in this new ASICS Gel Nimbus 25, the ideal runner type remains the same: neutral-gait runners. It is also true that the stability level of this running shoe allows mild overpronator runners, or neutral-gait runners who tend to overpronate as the miles go by, to make it their go-to daily training shoe.
The leap in quality of these ASICS Gel Nimbus 25 not only makes the model adaptable to all types of distances, but it is also more varied in terms of running pace. In fact, its improved energy return makes it an option for running close to 4:30 min/km, depending on the runner's weight, and slower. For people of light and medium weight, these ASICS Gel Nimbus 25 will be the ideal choice for those long runs where the focus is to rack up miles. While for heavier runners, from 80 kilos and above, they will be the right choice to run with superior cushioning, protection and safety sensations in all kinds of distances and at lower paces, above 5:30 min/km.
Technical specifications of the ASICS Gel Nimbus 25
Regarding the technical specifications of the ASICS Gel Nimbus 25, they represent a substantial change from their predecessor, the Gel Nimbus 24. The geometry of the shoes is modified with a lower drop of 8 millimetres (41.5 mm in the heel and 33.5 mm in the forefoot). But, as we have already mentioned, all the changes in this model translate into a lighter model that weighs 289 grams in size 9 US (8 UK) for men and 227 grams in 7.5 US (5.5 UK) for women. Softer, lighter and more responsive than ever.
All in all, these ASICS Gel Nimbus 25 are still those everyday training shoes that are a sure-fire hit, and you know they deliver on their promises. Of course, this latest and new version of the ASICS Gel Nimbus is a strong contender for best running shoe of the year.

ASICS Gel Nimbus 25: Softness, cushioning and maximum comfort for your leisurely runs
The ASICS Gel Nimbus 25 are daily training running shoes, without a doubt the most comfortable and cushioned I've ever tried from the Japanese brand. With a modern design of rounded lines and a very attractive colour combination, they are easy to put on and have a soft cushioning, which allows you to run long distances on asphalt with a feeling of maximum comfort in each stride. On the other hand, the tongue mechanism is very practical, it helps a lot when putting it on, and it should be added that it covers the instep area, providing a greater feeling of foot support. It is a wide last shoe and therefore provides very good stability despite not being a shoe made specifically to prevent overpronation.
What type of runners are the ASICS Gel Nimbus 25 for?
These ASICS Gel Nimbus 25 (in which we will not see the GEL as it is encapsulated inside the Flyte Foam Blast + foam) are targeted to runners who aim to complete long runs or long distance races such as half marathons or marathons and are not looking to run at high paces as a result. Instead, they are looking for ample cushioning, softness and comfort while running, and protection and support for the foot. We recommend these ASICS Gel Nimbus 25 shoes for daily workouts at easy paces.
What distances do we recommend the ASICS Gel Nimbus 25 for?
The distances and paces suitable for this shoe can vary quite a bit thanks to its new features in regard to the previous model, although it would be recommended from 10K and up to marathons, as they are quite stable, wide and have excellent cushioning to go comfortably over long distances.
What we liked most about the ASICS Gel Nimbus 25
Personally, what impressed me the most was the excellent foot support in any movement. If you add the ample cushioning formed by the Pure Gel capsule in the heel area and the Flyte Foam Blast + foam throughout the midsole, it is a perfect combination for runs at easy paces.
The stability and grip of the outsole, as well as the comfort they provide, are some of their main virtues.
I also liked the ease of putting on the shoes thanks to the elastic heel strap and the wide and soft tongue.
Aspects to be improved in the ASICS Gel Nimbus 25
For the next model of these ASICS Nimbus 25, it would be nice to lower the price a bit, as their RRP is 175 GBP. Although in comparison with the great racing shoes that have come on the market in recent years they remain at a very good price, they are somewhat more expensive than other maximum cushioning shoes from competing brands. Few improvements for those looking for a shoe with maximum cushioning and comfort.
