1 / 3With an undisputed track record in the development of running shoes in which the premise of incorporating the best technologies has been maintained, ASICS finally addresses an issue that had been its "Achilles heel" in previous presentations of the Gel Oberon: the breathability of the shoe. With a significant improvement in the mesh upper, comes the ASICS Gel Oberon 10, a shoe that offers improved foot conformability while keeping the foot cool and libre.
At first glance, it appears that ASICS has decided to retain much of the design of the predecessor shoe and it might give the impression that the mesh has also been kept intact, however, a closer look shows us a mesh with wider holes which will consequently result in a shoe with better breathability and internal heat management.
Improved performance
The mesh upper was not the only change ASICS has decided to implement in the Oberon 10, as they have also added an EVA foam with improved characteristics. This new foam called SpEVA better transfers the energy caused by impact and distributes it throughout the foot for a superior level of cushioning.
In addition to this new foam, there is also the presence of the gel that gives its name to the shoe, which is found in the heel and toe and attenuates shock in these important areas. The ASICS Gel Oberon 10 is undoubtedly a running shoe that will meet the demands in terms of cushioning and comfort, especially for neutral runners and for frequent training.
Fit for neutral runners
While there is one thing to note about these shoes, it is that they will best suit neutral runners and those who are not looking for a shoe with a lot of technologies and technical features. It should be noted that their 22-millimeter, 10-millimeter drop sole does not have arch support or any other type of pronation control mechanism.
However, in order not to lose foot stability, the upper of the shoe features a more generous fit in the heel and toe area. Although a slightly wider toe box has been provided, the ASICS Gel Oberon 10 does not feel loose during the run; the midfoot area has an improved fit so that although there is no specific arch support, this area remains secure.
ASCIS continues to use its special AHAR+ rubber compound to make up the outsole of the shoes, which offer increased durability and grip on trails, without significantly increasing the overall weight of the shoe (310 grams for the men's version, 304 grams for the women's shoes).
In conclusion, the Gel Oberon 10 is an ideal running shoe for training or daily runs.
