The ASICS brand continues to breathe new life into its extensive and varied inventory of Running shoes, literally, as they have focused on improving the breathability and fit of their footwear to help runners feel more comfortable while reaching their goals.
In the case of the seventh installment of the Asics Gel Phoenix, we find ourselves with a model, which while it fits the foot well for support, is also flexible enough to facilitate movement without feeling tight. Ventilation has been greatly improved with the addition of more mesh, but without sacrificing the conservative cut design that has characterized this ASICS shoe.
The new upper of the Gel Phoenix 7 provides a better fit for different foot widths without feeling extremely snug. While the outer design has retained the material overlays seen in its predecessor, Phoenix 6, the eyelets have been left free to give more looseness to the laces, and avoid pressure on the top of the foot, but keeping a good part of the fit in this area so that the shoes do not feel loose.
All of these design adjustments are intended to keep the athlete's foot comfortable during medium to long runs. The Asics Gel Phoenix 7 features a removable inner sockliner, which also contributes to improved fit, but can easily be replaced with orthotic insoles. The collar is made from cushioned materials and the tongue has a new design that better accommodates the foot.
ASICS maintains its AHAR outsoles that improve the traction of the shoe on asphalt terrain. With this shoe, long sections of rubber have been designed that are separated by a cutout in the midfoot and become deep grooves in the forefoot. This design allows the outsole to move flexible during the run, maintains traction and at the same time offers increased durability to this section of the shoe.
The midsole of these shoes integrates ASCIS' best technologies to ensure support and cushioning for the foot. To begin with, the Gel system is located in the heel area, whose mission is to provide greater absorption of the impact of the foot on the ground.
A dual-density foam, Duomax, has been incorporated throughout the midsole, which not only provides cushioning but also stability. This foam becomes denser as you reach the midfoot section to protect the arch, and that in conjunction with the Trusstic System allows for better movement and support for mild pronator runners.
The Asics Gel Phoenix 7 shoes offer a good amount of cushioning, support, protection and durability, ideal for use both during training for short races, as well as for longer races, for the comfort and fit they offer to the athlete's foot.
