What we liked most about the Asics Magic Speed 2

We see a lot of changes in this second edition compared to the first one. Let's start with the star of this shoe, its midsole and carbon plate. We find a plate throughout the midsole, which in combination with the FF Blast + foam that we have already seen in models such as the Asics Novablast 3 or the Asics Gel Nimbus 24, give it consistency, a lot of reactivity in a rather firm feel. This firmness turns into explosiveness in the race but both its geometry and its upper, reduce those rough sensations that we perceive in more radical models with carbon plate.

Therefore its comfort and support in the race would be the two main virtues of the Asics Magic Speed 2, in a shoe as we said is very fast. Those sensations are mainly perceived thanks to that upper that has a slightly wider last in the toe area than in the previous version. The upper is made of a kind of reinforced braided yarn that makes it lightweight and breathable.

The part of the toe box hugs the ankle very well, we even find padded areas in the achilles area and some structure that will prevent the heel from moving during the race.

The tongue, however, is very thin, very radical, although it is attached with an elastic fabric to the sides of the shoe with which you will not have problems that will move.

The outsole is very similar to that of the Asics MetaSpeed Sky with the metatarsal area well protected with its traditional AHAR rubber that works so well in terms of grip and durability.

Possible improvements

Being a shoe intended mainly for training, we miss some more protection of the exposed parts of the outsole. Considering that it is a model with a drop of 8 mm and that it encourages midfoot landings, those of you who land on the heel, the area is more exposed.

And on the other hand, a tongue with a little more padding, even if the shoe gains a few grams, will favor even more comfort and convenience during the race.

Conclusions

This is undoubtedly one of the fast running shoes, I would even say mixed, that we have liked the most in this 2022. You can run fast with them, you find some support and control in the race, it is not so spartan in terms of sensations, its design is very racing and its price is within the reasonable in models with carbon plates.
