1 / 6Let us introduce you to perhaps one of 2022's most established running shoes on the market, the ASICS Novablast 3. This is one of the Japanese brand's latest launches which is constantly evolving, and this new version is sure to climb the rankings of this year's best daily training shoes. They stand out for their perfect balance of optimal cushioning and great energy return in each stride. Here at RUNNEA we will tell you everything you need to know about the third version of one of this brand's most popular series, and we also compare prices so that you can find the cheapest option—Let's get to it!
Main features of the ASICS Novablast 3
These ASICS running shoes are strong candidates in the category of best trainer of the year at the 2022 RUNNEA Awards, because the ASICS Novablast 3's improvements make them an ideal model for runners of average weight (up to 80-85 kg) to use in their daily training sessions. They can be used both for feel good everyday runs at slower paces as well as for sessions where you want to push yourself a little bit more.
Without being considered a hybrid shoe, the ASICS Novablast 3 will allow you to respond and help you when your paces are more lively.
In the renovation of this model, ASICS developers have spared no effort or resources. In fact, its main novelty compared to its predecessor, the ASICS Novablast 2, is in the new midsole construction. Now, the standout technology is FlyteFoam Blast Plus. A resource that makes it possible to increase the level of cushioning and comfort in each stride, while ensuring a more responsive and lighter responsiveness over longer distances.
In addition, this innovative cushioning system has already been successfully and efficiently tested in other staple models of the brand, such as the ASICS Magic Speed 2, or also in the iconic ASICS Gel Nimbus 24, which confirms that ASICS will fully commit to this new technology in most of its designs to come in 2022. Also, this third version of the ASICS Novablast continues to use its trampoline inspired design for a more responsive rebound and a superior energy return.
The good thing about these revamped ASICS Novablast 3 is that you will have the opportunity to increase your mileage with complete confidence and security, since the heel stabilisers improve support at this strategic point of the model. And this fact is very important, since the designers of the Japanese company had the challenge of improving the stability of a trainer that in its first version had many problems in this regard. In the second version it improved, but in this third one we really get a much more secure and stable running shoe.
Before going into the new features of the upper, it is worth mentioning that these top-of-the-range running shoes have significantly reduced their weight compared to the second edition. This is partially due to the new upper, which now has a lighter and more breathable design. This type of upper also aids better adaptability and support, increasing the feeling of comfort in every kilometre you run. Its new reflective details also make it possible for you to go for a run whenever you feel like it in this best-selling ASICS model.
As for the outsole, the ASICS Novablast 2 already underwent significant changes, and it was decided that the new edition would keep the AHAR® Plus compound in the key areas most prone to wear, which will help prolong the trainer's lifespan.
Technical specifications of the ASICS Novablast 3
From its first version, the ASICS Novablast 3 was a totally different bet to what we were used to from the Japanese brand. And the result couldn't be more satisfactory. After the doubts about the first two versions, mainly due to their instability when running, this third version provides security and incredible sensations when running. Its soft heel and extreme comfort make it a joy to run at paces between 4:00 and 5:00 m/km. The drop of this model is 8 millimetres. This is a model with a medium shape that ensures smooth, efficient and agile strides, as well as being safe and reliable, as you would expect from a top-of-the-range training shoe with maximum cushioning.
As we have already mentioned, one of the novelties of the ASICS Novablast 3 is that it is a lighter model, and that is felt in the loss of grams in the whole of this model, whose weight is about 252 grams in size 9 US (8 UK) in the men's version. At RUNNEA we want you to know that this third edition of the ASICS Novablast is a safe bet if you're looking for a running shoe that offers fast, agile, comfortable running sensations and a good fit.
Review of ASICS Novablast 3
Gorka Cabañas
TesterAsics Novablast 3, this is going to be one of the top selling shoes of the brand.
The Asics Novablast 3 are in my opinion the best positioned running shoes to become top sellers from the Japanese brand. And this third edition meets all the requirements that an average amateur runner may need. It has excellent cushioning, a soft and very comfortable running feel, reactivity when you need it, attractive design, lightness and a fair price. With all these advantages, I have little doubt that the evolution of this model, which I was at first doubtful of due to its stability problems, will become one of the brand's top references in the coming years.
Who do we recommend the Asics Novablast 3 for?
The Novablast 3 is possibly the most versatile running shoe of the brand. We recommend it for runners with a neutral stride, of average weight up to 80 kg, for asphalt runs up to the half marathon. But its lightness (around 244 grams in a size 9.5 USA men's and 235 in 7 USA women's) will allow us to use them in quality training sessions such as series, hills or changes of pace. These shoes are also a good choice for competing in short races or even half marathons, where comfort is of utmost importance.
The Asics Novablast 2 already show an improvement in terms of the stability of the model while racing compared to the first edition, which we were doubtful of. In this third edition, Asics is still committed to providing robustness and safety to its midsole and chassis, without compromising its weight and comfort during the race.
With the Novablast 2 we found a wider base of the shoe, reinforcements in the heel and a new upper that wraps the foot better and gives us more security when we run.
Its drop is 8 mm, which combined with the softness of the impact of the sole may require in some cases a muscular adaptation to the shoe. When first using the shoe, first run 3 km a couple of days, then move on to 5 for another couple of days and a couple of 10km runs at easy paces.
What did we like most about the Asics Novablast 3?
We love the design. It has a spectacular, racing look but at the same time is strong in terms of materials.
Its softness in the race is a very nice touch, and it's a pleasure to run with them. Its midsole improves with each new version.
Possible improvements for future editions
Honestly, I would love to see a slightly higher drop, 10 mm for example. This would make this shoe a good option for a wider group of runners. When you ask us for shoes with a lot of cushioning and comfort, and we then recommend shoes with drops below 10mm, doubts tend to arise.
I think Asics has got it right with this model and their evolution towards a more and more versatile shoe. The majority of the public wants comfort and cushioning, and they want to be able to run fast while improving their form. The support is improving from edition to edition and the durability has also improved compared to the first version.
