1 / 6The Wave Paradox edition from Mizuno has been characterized as a good stability shoe, with adequate arch support for mild pronators; an optimal cushioning system; and a modern design, which undoubtedly catches the eye. In this third edition, the Mizuno Wave Paradox 3 comes perfectly renewed, and many aspects of the shoe seem to have been redesigned to improve the final function of the shoe.
Again we can see the traditional upper with overlays, however, it has undergone some modifications that are intended to improve the fit. The midsole maintains its soft characteristics, which have already been seen in previous editions of the Wave Paradox.
Wave midsole
The shoe's namesake feature is the wave-shaped midsole that can be seen on the outside of the shoe in a "three up, three down" design, i.e. three waves extending through the shoe.
However, in this edition the configuration of this plate is divide at the midfoot, so the full-length plate extends only under the big toe and pinky and fourth toes, leaving the other sections free.
The U4iC foam is also segmented in the forefoot section of the shoe, unlike the previous version, this makes the Mizuno Wave Paradox 3 allow for more flexible and comfortable toe movement.
At the rearfoot is the X10 technology which is a durable carbon rubber that extends through the heel and into the midfoot where it merges with the softer foam to give the shoe better balance.
This time Mizuno has ditched the SR Touch wedge it had used in the heel of its predecessor shoes to make way only for the U4iC foam which instead of being placed only in one section, has a full length.
Upper design
Overall, the look of the shoe still remains within the traditional line that characterizes Mizuno. However, in this edition all the overlays that make up the upper are stitched, leaving behind the thermoseals.
In the midfoot there are three overlays that improve the structure of the shoe and provide greater support to this section of the foot. The laces chosen are semi-flat and the way they have been positioned in relation to the overlays, allows for a customized fit to the width of the runner's foot.
The open mesh facilitates the ventilation of the shoe and keeps the foot cool at all times. Both the mid-thickness tongue and the interior of the shoe make use of a synthetic material that in addition to being very soft promotes the ventilation of the shoe.
By way of conclusion, the Mizuno Wave Paradox 3 is an excellent update to this edition of Mizuno running shoes, being a very good option to consider in stability shoes, ideal for training on asphalt terrains.
